UT will approach others, including Mullen, before Frost. There is a higher comfort level with hiring a sitting P5 HC.

Well, here is the thing it's fun to discuss but we don't know this to be a fact. For all we know Frost is the top name on their board at the moment.

He certainly is going to make a P5 school a great head coach.

IDT Fuente will leave VT for the SEC. He's doing well where he is, has a good setup and a good recruiting base. He'll probably get a bump and be content. Great coach, though.

I agree but he needs to say no before we move on to non power 5 coaches.

Frost has a serious coaching pedigree. Hard not to like his relatively unique career of QB to LB to defensive coaching to offensive coaching under all the big names...

Exactly.

I haven't actually watched the man coach a team, but his resume' is out of this world.

Any coach is a gamble...and I would rather gamble on this resume' than pretty much any other one.

Did some research...Is this right? Mullen's buyout is his salary (4.5M) for each left on contract (2021) 18M. According to his old contract, new one can't find the #s

Frost makes 2M and buyout is 4.5M.

Firing CBJ cost approx 8M

2 Scenarios
Mullen is new coach and costs 18M+27.5M (5yrs making at least 5.5M per year) + 8M CBJ Buyout because you have to pay him more than he is making + assistant coaches firing and hiring. Close to 60M

Frost is new coach and cost 4.5M + 20M (5yrs at 4M)+ CBJ Buyout at 8M + AC hiring and firing. Close to 38M

First time I'm hoping our cheapness works in our favor.

I used USA Today #s
NCAAF | Coaches | Salaries | USA TODAY Sports

There are always two separate buyouts in a contract. One for if he gets fired, and a separate one for if he leaves. Mullen is owed 18M if they fire him, not if he leaves.

Just saw the hit on Flacco.

Clean in my book. He's racing to the first down line and the defender is trying to beat him there. He slid late and Alonso had already started down to hit him.

It's one of those plays that are just part of the game in football and shows why football only works at full speed. You don't want hit then don't run the football. You want protection with your slide then you need to do it in time for the defender to stop.

Certain decisionmakers want a sitting P5 coach. The search committee will start there. How the names stack up and how quickly they'll move on to G5/best available-- namely, Frost--IDK. Probably PDQ.

Isn't his buyout to leave very small? Seems like that has been said but I haven't seen it confirmed.

Some have said that Mullen's buyout is something like $1.4M. That sounds ridiculously low, but I don't care enough to look it up.

If they don't go all in for Frost I can quickly see a scenario in which we're begging a 6-6 Jeff Brohm to leave Purdue after one year.

There is no real definition of what Mullen's buyout is. His contract says something like "buyout will be determined if he leaves for convenience".

On scrambles like that, the bang-bang calls have to go to the defender. A QB can't wait until the very last minute to slide and then expect the refs to protect him. It's not like he was blindsided or something.

I agree. But they aren't gonna let that go without a flag. This concussion stuff is going to slowly ruin football.

Saw a lot of petitioning for a suspension online but if that happens I give up on the NFLs reasonings. Clearly wasn’t malicious. Give him a low $ fine and move on.

But Tenacious D and Earl said Gruden was a lock?

I'm sure Miss St will fight to keep Mullen. They'll renegotiate his contract to make him happy... unless he's ready to leave. Not sure UT will spend much time being jerked around, especially if there's a need to move quickly on a guy like Frost.

IYO, why is this list ridiculous?

Gruden - Seriously.
Kelly - Not coaching here, most likely not in the SEC.
Patterson - NOT LEAVING TCU!!!
Frost - Going to Nebraska
Mullen - Why leave Miss St when they are happy with him there and an offer from us gets him a raise and extension?

That is why the list is ridiculous.

Yep. I only watched it a couple of times, but I don't think Alonso touched him with his helmet...it was all shoulder. Still hit him hard, but I don't believe it was helmet-to-helmet.

If it had been helmet-to-helmet, Flacco might still be laying there...
