Why? We won't care if we go 4-8 or 3-9 if this program lands, say, Jon Gruden. No one will care.
I guess I care a *little* bit, but it just isn't worth stressing out over. We're not a good football team. I'd rather we not lose, but if we do, then I mean...oh well. Life goes on. There have been worse losses. Way worse.
I mean, I guess it's a neat record to have and I'd rather it not be broken, but does it ultimately really matter? I mean, do you think that Alabama cares that they've had 8 and 9 loss seasons? Do you think Penn State cares? Oklahoma?
It's a neat trivia question, but that's all it is. A trivia question.
Then what the crap do you care about? Why are you even here? Just to tell us you're too cool to care? Is apathy on the great virtues list now?
We've seen the worst loss in the history of Neyland Stadium. We've seen the worst point spread in Tennessee's history. We've seen some of the worst losses in the entirety of Tennessee football, and certainly in any of our lifetimes. Butch Jones owns the 3 worst defeats to Alabama in half a century, the most points surrendered in Neyland Stadium history, is the only coach since the 1920s to have multiple losses to Vanderbilt, we've seen a loss to Wyoming...
I mean, the record is kinda cool and I'd rather not lose it, but all that really matters at the end of the day is that this program makes the right hire and resumes the climb.
Bobo could be announced and within 3 weeks 90% would talk themselves into believing. 70% immediately after his presser and the other 20 within a few weeks of listening to the sports animal.
If you cant talk yourself into believing, your football experience is going to suck over the next 3-5 years.
Ill have no choice but to believe even a stuffed piñata is about to take over the East
Completely disagree. I think the fans and the media have made the Butch situation completely dysfunctional and untenable.
Yes, Butch has flaws, but he's also very good at certain aspects of his job. He's not been able to really turn the corner, and it may have been time to move on anyway, but the toxicity around this program because of the media and fan narrative about Butch is unbelievable -- and ultimately the reason why I am confident saying he will not be the coach next year, notwithstanding the fact that preseason expectations are still technically on the table (and would be much more realistic but for all the toxicity).
Butch is a national joke... and why? Because he has a turnover trash can, like every other freaking team in the country. And because he's so dadgum soft that he says things like, "This team we are playing Saturday is a really, really good team, and we can't take them for granted just because we've beat them the last 4 years." And because he talks about silly things like "eye discipline" and "leadership reps" and all sorts of ridiculous things like that that aren't ridiculous when other coaches and analysts say them. And because he played trumpet in high school. And so on and so forth.
Edited to add: And this narrative about Butch being a joke, etc., started years ago -- it isn't just a reaction to Butch proving not up to the task; it is a partial cause. These kids have the internet. How can he possibly be respected the locker room and on the recruiting trail when he is so widely mocked as a total joke of a coach?

Agreed about other coaches. With some of the stuff coming out about how much bad the staff is at getting along and working together, I'm not sure an interim will help too much.
Hoke would be the obvious candidate on staff, but I doubt Shoop will be happy about being passed over for his DL coach.
Scott has had success as an interim, but why reward the worst OC in the SEC (who is at least partly to blame for Butch's firing in the first place)?
Shoop has HC aspirations and his unit has been successful, but I doubt Scott and Hoke would appreciate being passed up too much.
I'm not sure any of those guys is going to make us that much better at this point.
