Official Jon Gruden Thread XXII

Y’all are getting trolled so hard. I love this thread but seriously the insiders here are laughable. Try not to take the fall too hard when we hire a google coach. Butch hasn’t been fired because they have no clue who they would replace him with. If gruden were “a done deal”, why on earth would you even consider keeping butch another minute. The profit from bringing in gruden would squash any loss or buyout from firing butch.

Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

So I know two individuals who are involved in the process of handling the current situation with our head football coach. One I know in a collegial professional capacity, the other I have worked with on internal university issues on the academic administration side. These individuals do not know each other. They are very professional, and have not, nor would not leak detailed information to me regarding the situation. I have stated on here numerous times for these reasons that jobs were at stake. Up to this point, they had not given me any information that we weren't hearing from other people, so I didn't feel the need to bring anything up that would simply come across as "oh yeah, MY source said that too!" I've limited myself mostly to logical speculation on what we all could see, and only spoken definitively about things I knew factually to be true. For example "anyone bringing salary numbers is trolling or misinformed."

At no point have either of my sources told me "Gruden." They are not going to say a name until the coach is announced. They know my position on Gruden. So I am reading between the lines on identity, but I feel comfortable doing so.

Last night around 6:30 pm, I heard from the professional colleague regarding his/her participation in events. His job is completed, and he does not expect to have to do any additional work. I know he has been working on his part since Tuesday of the bye week, because he has been absolutely silent. We talked before he went dark, and his silence was expected for the duration of his work. The fact that he doesn't have anything else to do at this point, I took as a good sign, but was only a single data point.

This morning, I heard from the individual I know on the academic administration side. We have communicated with each other at length since 2013 on policy and philosophical issues related to the University's direction. Much of my thinking on the overall direction of the school has been shaped by conversations with this individual. Based on our talk this morning, I believe that the academic faction has capitulated on significant issues related to the independence of the football program. I believe that this has been one of the bigger issues affecting our coaching situation that hasn't really been discussed. Again, both of these individuals are aware of my thoughts on Gruden without saying a name. Both of these individuals have confirmed for me that in their respective areas of competence, the process has been completed, and will enter the next phase.

I am bringing this now because I heard from both of them within 24 hours, independent of each other, and because the timing seems congruent with the reports we are hearing from other folks (DTO, Atlanta Vol, etc) And I find it VERY interesting that I was hearing from one of my people at about the same time VFL92 was making his/her post.

Looks to me like the ducks are in a row. TIFWIW, but I would now put myself at 99% Gruden.

I’d like to hear more on the Scarebeans. The only one to mention it was Bubba and it seems like it has been brushed under the rug. Anyone with any insight care to elaborate? Could they/it be the group/people mending the gap between the AA and AD?

We don’t talk about them. They are nameless.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not accusing or "doxing" or anything like that if you read what I posted. I'm rolling with it. Was just curious. Sorry if i hurt your widdle feelings with a simple question.

For those that are feeling good about things now, how does it compare to 2012 before the ballon burst?

This time around I understand that for this to work, athletic admin, academic admin, Currie, Big Jim, other mega donors, and of course JG all have to get on the same page.

That is a big task. I am hopeful but more pessimistic than last time.

FWIW…I saw the early list of candidates that Currie wants to look at. It’s a solid list of coaches. The approach will be to rank them and start reaching out to their agents to find out who’s willing to listen, what it’s going to take for them to leave/accept, and see if they can put together a package that is a win-win. I will tell you that Gruden’s name is on the list, but the advice they’re getting is to not pursue him. The reasons why…coaches who have spent a majority of their time in the NFL rarely succeed in college. The rare exceptions are Pete Carroll and Barry Switzer. You can say Harbough, but he started off as a college coach at Stanford. For every 2 or 3 that have done well, there are 18 others like Chan Gailey that have failed. You must play the odds with this hire. The second piece Gruden hasn’t coached in a long time. Why do you think that’s the case? The feedback I was given is he has a reputation of being a very difficult coach to work for. This comes from his former players and assistant coaches. Plus, he really hasn’t had to work hard in several years, so nobody knows how he’ll do on the recruiting trail, meet & greet/roadshows, etc. For someone to post that it’s 98% likely that the Gruden deal is done is simply not true.

There are a handful of other coaches on the list that would be a much better match if they’re willing to listen. Most of them are head coaches, but there are a few OC’s on there as well. What I can tell you is Fuente, Venables, Kiffin, Stoops, Peterson, Patterson, Norvell, Miles, and Jimbo are not being considered at this time. That can obviously change. If we can land one of the A list coaches, I think most of the Vol nation will be happy. The X factor are the other coaching vacancies that could open up this year, including UCLA, Nebraska, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and possibly USC. That doesn’t include the obvious ones at Ole Miss, Oregon State, and possibly Washington State if Leach follows his ex. AD to Nebraska, but the fan base there are foaming at the mouth to get Scott Frost.

Prior to this search, Tennessee had a contract with a search firm out of Atlanta called Parker Executive Search, but they found a loop hole in the contract and have severed ties. They have one guy who is extremely well thought in the coaching search space that Currie has engaged as a trusted adviser. The real insiders can verify this.

What a seismic shift in the SEC. UT is instantly relevant again. College Gameday would be fighting to broadcast from Knoxville every home game. The Great Grude's salary would be made up in the first season's enhanced revenue stream, easily.

Would be Beatles, 1964, all over again, SEC version.

Let's do this

Beaves. If you see this, they need you!!! Please??? I'll buy you pure Cuban cigars and try my best to hook u up at Augusta. This is all with the understanding that NONE OF US will again attempt to find out who you are, and if one of us do, we get a minimum 1 month ban, or what ever we find fit. That's reasonable.

Been too long since I’ve heard the phrase, “Rocky Top, on top!” Soon, oh so soon!
