I'm an Army Blackhawk Senior Instructor Pilot. Retiring early 2019.

Right now the plan is to try and go to PSA Airlines. They're offering a training program to take military helicopter guys and train them to work at the airlines. The huge pilot shortage that is coming has all the airlines scrambling. They've realized military helicopter pilots are an untapped pool of pilots to fill the need.

Working on my fixed wing license right now to get a jumpstart.

air line pilot shortage from all the new terms and test that citizens half to provide now making it harder?..I know it has to be done,,but curious.

Most of us want to believe my friend...and that includes me. People certainly will prey on that...however I don’t have any agenda to do so. I also feel MIT BEAVE didn’t have an motive to do so either. I only want the best for this football team and its players. The entire state of TN deserves better than what we have had to deal with between Dofus, Lane, and now butch.

How would you know how an honors member speaks? Is there some country club way of saying something that I am unaware of?

Fact is the guy came in here with information. I simply noticed that there had been a bunch of talk about honors etc by him so as a member myself very easy for me to vet with a few simple questions to see if he was full of bs...he nailed them both. What he was saying also lined up with some of the things i had heard from my neck of the woods so I felt inclined to post and also make him an offer.

And for your info...the Blackburn deal was as good as done...until about the only person in those neck of the woods had to get involved....and it blew up. Which he is rather good at. Another epic failure IMO that highlighted the power struggle with some of our largest boosters. It has been a constant since i have been involved.

If you could be so kind as to answer this one question ... no names needed, is that one and only person that messed up the AD hire capable and likely to mess up the Gruden hire?

No, mainly bc the cost of entry (licenses, etc) was too high for a job that paid little more than a McDonalds fry cook (regional airline pilot).

It's slowly getting better but the pay gap has left a big hole in new guys training to do it. This also happens to coincide with massive numbers of guys hitting age 65 in the airlines and being forced to retire.

Edit: 90% soon.

That is great. I do a decent amount of flying in a Bell 429 to get in and out of NYC and when I am down in Brazil. Would say that is bout my only helicopter experience though. Good luck with the fixed wing stuff. I am always amazed and appreciative for the folks we employ to get us around the world safely. Thank you for your service.

No. There was an airline crash in Buffalo around 2013. FAA changed their rules on how many hours pilots needed to go to the airlines. Went from 250 to 1500 total, less if you have an associates or bachelors. Military trained pilots only need 500 total. Airlines can take a military helicopter pilot and for 30k train them at a flight school in a single and multi-engine airplane, then they're ready to show up for training at the airline.

When you figure renting a single engine airplane runs 125-150/hr a lot of people can't afford to get 1,500 hrs.
