I don't want to name the other poster because he/she has been relatively quiet with short nuggets - & I want them to keep posting. Also, the connecting dots are somewhat tenuous, but combined with my OCD reading of this board, my woman's intuition, & my hopes/dreams for UT football, it's enough for me. Let's face it, we won't know for sure until we know for sure. However, I think MIT's screen name is DIRECTLY connected to one of the $ sources, so that makes me think he does know what he's talking about.
Look at it this way. He's the CEO of a company that brings in over $100 million a year. He's limited in who he can talk with because of contractual agreements. You don't fire The person in charge of the operation of the $100 million dollar company until you have every duck in a row, or you risk even bigger downfalls. I can assure you that Currie will have someone named within the week when Butch is finally let go.
This☝️
We will not hear anything solid until Butch is fired.
This is what my insider says...
If Butch runs the table except for the LSU game, then he will be the Vols HC coach in 2018.
As I said earlier, this isn't a matter of national security. A misinformation campaign sounds like a bad plot point, not a real thing concerning a FOOTBALL COACH.
No, but when there are legal consequences and real money at stake then you do what you have to.
I'm sure the back channels are humming right along, but it's like coaches that chest at recruiting. Currie must keep himself at a distance from all of it. Nothing can lead back to him even though he is well aware of what is going on.
How would it look for Currie, first year on the job, openly negotiating with another coach while Jones is employed? His name would be mud after the lawsuit.
Take that one step further. If Currie has to be covert in all this, with his ass on the line, why would he NOT float out some bad info to weed out the rats?
He has to be able to trust the people around him in order to keep this quiet. And that doesn't just apply to negotiating with Gruden but any coach before Butch is fired.
How many times did Saban publicly deny the bama job? Harbaugh? And those positions were open at the time. So how important do you think it is to be quiet about this situation?
