No. In that situation it is like interviewing and hiring someone to replace an individual working out their “notice”.

2 things, IMO.

1. Gruden gets a more attractive offer from the NFL. Not likely, and it's encouraging to hear that a third party allegedly made an offer which was rejected.

2. Gruden himself. I don't know the man or his life, or all his inner motivations. I know that sometimes, human beings have inscrutable motives that aren't obvious to the outside world. I've been in negotiations before that were ridiculously close to an accord, only to fall apart for no apparent reason. Sometimes, people just have their own reasons for backing away from a deal.

That's it for me. I think that we survived #1, and I have no evidence to suggest Gruden intended to back away from a deal. In fact, I think if he did intend that, he would have already declined.

Butch Jones should be done at Tennessee. He cannot win big here. He has showed us time after time that he is in over his head. I think we are a lot better off than when he got here and he did a lot of good things for us, but dragging this out is good for nobody. The writing is on the wall. The recruits know it, the fans know it, and Butch knows it. How would you perform your job if you knew the entire fan base wanted you gone and your boss was going to fire you as soon as he could? We will continue to play bad football and struggle in recruiting until Butch Jones is fired by Tennessee.

I did give this pause before ever posting the regulations. I found no loophole or clause allowing contact to be made as long as the coach is still on the job regardless of agreements to be upheld in the future.
Everything I have read implies that until a coaches final day on the job, all regulations are still in effect.

I completely agree which is why stating anything is 100% is ballsy because things can change so quickly. I just wanted UT to give their all the way they ask the boys on the field to do. If they do that and fail, so be it.

Honestly, you need to quit worrying about when Butch is fired. Now or end of the season doesn’t matter. IT DOESNT MATTER.

What matters is hiring our man. Butch can Shepard his mess until then. A big enough name doesn’t have to “hit the road”

A big enough name splashes and excited everyone because they know him

Recruiting will not be an exhausting task for the next HC like it is for CBJ. Because the HC will be KNOWN.

His staff will travel, but he will be more centered in Knoxville and more active in coaching.
