I'll post this once, in case anybody cares-- probably not, but here goes. UT is a state university, subject to formal hiring policy and procedures. We currently have a sitting HC and a BOT that governs such matters. So while intermediaries may approach Gruden casually to gauge his interest in coaching, they can't offer or promise him anything. They can gather info in an unofficial capacity, but they don't speak for the university and what they say isn't, in any way, endorsed or binding. If Gruden says, "UT. That's wild, man. Let's talk."-- then when UT has an opening for HC, UTAD will contact Gruden's agent and they'll talk. Meanwhile, UT will do the requisite posting, listing, searching, vetting and interviewing required. The Chancellor and the BOT will be involved, and it will become official. Financials will be discussed, and negotiations will ensue.
That's the way it works, for those who're interested. Not nearly as fun as Grudapalooza and Currie going Columbo in the back room of a Pilot, but there you have it. Carry on. Go Vols.
