If what a lot have posted is true & CBJ wants out to save credibility for future coaching & Currie knows this & wants to negotiate the best buyout possible then Currie would have the upper hand. He can be patient & let the turmoil build for CBJ & force him into a better buyout for TN. So it would stand to reason that if Gurden or whoever cant start til after the season then you tell Butch you will have to coach til the end of the year. CBJ cant tank it if he wants to get another job and then once you are in position to either get the buyout you want or the coach you want you pull the trigger. This would explain conflicting reports on the timeline for the departure of CBJ

Doesn't matter what the profession is, it's never a good idea to fire someone and let him continue in the work place. I've seen this first hand and I can tell you for a fact---it's a bad idea.

I'm not a guy who has any info on anything having to do with his royal Grudeness....BUT I have a feeling if all of this goes the way 'we' want, you'll see a different sort of HC in Gruden than we've been used to. I think he'll CEO; he'll be the closer in recruiting; he'll approve and implement film study, player evaluations, and game plan; and most likely will monitor player development at a high level as one would asses potential NFL talent (with MAYBE exceptions on QB development since he LOVES that piece)....

I.E. I don't see Gruden micro-managing the kids on a daily basis. He will hire a staff he trusts to do that. Which will help keep him out of prison...:)

I think you're right. I think he knows himself and what he'll need to succeed here. Which, IMHO, would include mega staff. Probably what held up negotiations last time.

Good grief butch is not gonna finish the season get real folks. That recruiting class is gonna fall faster than tiger woods career.
1. If you let butch finish the season but know that he won't be there next year, how are you gonna salvage the recruits from abandoning ship? Are you gonna tell those recruits who were are gonna hire before we let butch go? That would be malpractice;there's no way they keep there mouth shut.
2. Butch wants to be able to coach again...if he stays here throughout the season it's gonna make his resume look even worse considering he's going to lose another game to a lower shelf team.
I know this has been mentioned before but d*** guys currie isnt this stupid

This. Plus early sign period starts this year. Gonna be a PR nightmare if you have players sign, and the Butch leaves.

You think it's likely we get past the big 3 candidates? You say they have their own seismic boom. (Still trying to figure out who would do that besides Patterson and Jimbo. Maybe Peterson)
I think I might prefer Frost or Brohm anyways. I liked Durkin too but that team isn't playing well.
It's not easy for any school to get a sitting power 5 coach to leave where he's being successful. Bama got Saban because he wasn't happy with the Dolphins and he got a sweetheart of a contract that was guaranteed with no buyout on his end. Ohio St got Meyer because he wanted out of UF at all costs and was just sitting there waiting on a school like OSU to come calling. Jimbo was a coach in waiting in a program that had really fallen to a pretty low point. It's just difficult to get guys like Patterson, Jimbo, Peterson etc to move. They will listen but it will take alot to get them. Huge risk when you start handing out 6 and 7 million dollar contracts that completely favor the coach. So, to finish this windbag answer, there's a good possibility that we end up down the list. Doesn't mean that UT isn't going to try and go big, it's just the nature of coaching searches.

I just had a discussion with someone in the office, who's adult children have ties to the UT Athletic Department. She had dinner with them last night. One of her son's who's good friend works in the AD said....Get ready, "you're not going to like it", Jones will be fired on Monday. This talk about Gruden meeting with Currie is true, However, he's helping with the "new hire process" along with Peyton - not discussing Gruden coming to UT. They are trying to get Stoops - Gruden, and Peyton are just assisting in the process.

I could certainly see Stoops to Florida if that program keeps going south..... and he may be holding out for that.. Having said that, I have read somewhere that Stoops is following some of our recruits on tweeter,, that seems strange to me !!

Right now I still believe we are on Gruden

This is where the term, "what are they gonna do, fire me?" comes from. Lol

I'm certainly not trying to throw cold water on this party, but what makes everyone think Gruden would be even a good college football coach.
It seems everyone has forgotten his BIGGEST flaw as a pro coach was his inability to remain patient with young players. He seemingly hated rookies.
I mentioned Gruden to a lifelong Bucs fan, and he horse-laughed at the idea of CJG working with a college freshman. Suggested there might be a murder.

Welp, I guess we can shut this whole thing down now. Party's over. You can all go home now!

This. Basilio is calling Currie out for being quiet and letting this program tank, that he's not going to stand by and let this program be ruined, he's going to speak up cause no one else is...blah, blah, blah.

When Butch didn't get his extension this Spring, I knew something was up. I completely believe the rumors about this being worked on for some time now.

There literally is no one on radio to listen to right now. Sports animal are nut huggers and this joker is stupid.

Yeah there is. The Drive with Russell Smith!! 3pm EST 1340 am or Fox Sports Knoxville

I'm still on board. He's neither in or out. Things are going to get real quiet ladies and gents. I agree there is back channels going on but it most likely in adds up "hey what would it take"

Regarding Stoops...

I do know for a fact there will be several ADs in Norman this weekend. Unsure if Currie is on that list (have no clue whether he and Joe C are friendly) but wanted to head off rumors of "Currie talking to Stoops!" in advance when/if it comes up.
