UT isn't negotiating with coaches right now. Informal conversations is the extent of it while we have a sitting HC. UT will have a search firm vet candidates and cull a list. We have one on retainer.

Yeah that's why I don't believe anyone that says Currie has directly spoken to someone about the job or anything like that. Not with a HC in position

Without Dave Hart's level of expertise here anymore I don't think we have a choice.

Yeah, it's a pretty stupid contract when you consider a committee of Currie, Fulmer and Manning is about as good as it gets as far as ability to pick coaches.

I guess it's nice to have this search firm because they can contact a list of coaches and it gives Currie plausible deniability.

You're right, but that's kind of dumb, in my opinion. At some point every good head coach was a coordinator. Kirby Smart has been very successful.

I'm just saying, hire the guy you think is the best coach you can get. I'm not campaigning for any of the coordinators, but excluding them outright is short-sighted.

There isn't a coordinator out there who won't be another "wait and see" sort of coach. Venables is the only one I can think of off the top of my head--and he shouldn't be contacted until we've been told by at least 5 current or *ahem* former head coaches. Gruden, Kelly, Mullen and even Stoops should all be forced to say no before we get to Venables or any other coordinators

We need someone that's proven that they can handle the responsibilities of running a staff, football team and all of the extra curricular activities that come with being a head coach--while also winning at a high level.

If we hire a coordinator, this program is in (more) trouble.

More from Chattvol06

Your excitement has definitely been toned down a notch after last night.

haha people kill me. We still haven't formally fired Butch! If we hear "he turned us down" a week or more after Butch is formally fired, then I'll worry. Hearing one or two people say it last night in the midst of continuing to hear lots of other positive information does absolutely nothing to my excitement about the prospects of having JG as our next coach.

Yep. Sometimes, they hire another one, but they usually start with Parker.

I went to Parker's website. It's pretty interesting.

They take credit for the Currie, Butch, Barnes and Vitello hires. I guess it means they facilitated the interviews and other logistical things.

Parker does the initial background work. UT hired Turnkey to find Currie. Cost an extra $100K. We could do it again this time if we don't get our guy right away.

The background work makes sense from a "insurance" type angle.

The bold is an interesting term considering he worked here not too long ago.

Let me know if you can't see it.

I think Butch just got exhausted

Remember when he would track the miles run during practice and sleep by players?

From this, to the point to where players basically workout if they want to and a locker room without discipline.

I truly think he just wore himself out, let go of some things, and here we are.

I bet he takes time off from coaching to count his $9 million, hundred-dollar-bill by hundred-dollar-bill
