I cant share details, but it was that she was much more involved in this than what is normal...including being in certain meetings that I thought might have been the same that you were referring to. I have strong connections to her, but my connections aren't connected to the sports side very much.

In a good way or bad way?

Serious question. Is Gruden a sure success as a Head Coach or is he better leveraged as a part of the small core group convincing a proven, dynamic Head Coach to be all in on the UT job?

Involved in a good way? Again, I've heard that the administration, top down, are lined up for this. If she's been instrumental, then my opinion will be forever changed.

He's never coached a college game before. And hasn't recruited since he was the TE coach at Pacific some 30 years ago.

If you are a number one recruit. You want to play for Kelly, who recently to these kids had glory days at Oregon and failed in the NFL..... Or would you rather play for someone who is on tv every week talking about football, that has alot of passion for the game, and that most any player or coach will say is one of the greatest in terms of coaching? Ill hang up and listen....

No problem. Another thing that may have helped John mature as an AD is that one of the things he witnessed was the fact that Clawson was brought in as a coach in waiting by the administration (Clawson was not Phil’s choice) and that started the downfall. So that perspective may also lead to letting go of staff control. Which is the major control issue that we have had on the Hill. Believe it or not the staffing decisions have not been 100% under the HC. They are approved to whatever extent by AD personnel and some very strong boosters. For the record my support was for David after Bama Dave retired.

Did not know about the Clawson issue of him being brought in as coach in waiting nor that it was not Phil?s choice..... That could be a major hang up with Gruden if it is not fixed.... or any other big name coach

Sadly, that will never happen.
If we land Gruden, then all of those calling us crazy now will become hell bent on seeing him fail. They will be foaming at the mouth to call us out on any loss or questionable play.
On the other hand, we will most likely come to his defense in these instances.
Essentially what will happen is a role reversal where you have current posivols become negavols and negavols become posivols.

And the world keeps turning...

So much truth in this post.

Can we have a dunking booth filled with the outflowings from the men’s restroom at Neyland for every goob that comes in here and makes this statement?? As soon as they type it, piss and poop pour over them.

It's impossible to get anything done with this thread around, I need Butch to be gone Sunday and Gruden announced in the near future.

The words shared with me was that she's very interested and wants constant updates. It was never said exactly good or bad but the whole conversation led to being good. It was mentioned that she is behind Currie and what he's doing.

Interesting. I watched her interview with Finebaum the day he was on the Hill before the Georgia game. She made some very interesting statement about wins, and the correct number being up to the AD. She indicated there were lofty expectations for Tennessee Football. I remember being struck by her body language, and words at the time....almost like she knew.

I have believed existing plans were set in motion after Florida, and weren't solidified until after Georgia. My take on Currie, is that contingencies have been in place since he arrived. Apparently the big hitters we're impressed with his preparations. Sounds like she has been on board, and behind her AD. I hope that is correct.

It's been forever and a day since Tennessee did something that brought positive national attention to the program. When Butch was hired, let's face it, it wasn't ground breaking news across the media. You had to search to even find it being a story. However, when Michigan hired Harbaugh, OSU hired Myer, and Bama hired Saban whether anyone wants to admit it or not.....those programs instantly became envied because of the hire. Just once in my lifetime I'd like to see UT envied for a hire. I'd like to be the talk of positive attention with story lines like "Big Shake Up in the SEC" or "The SEC landscape just shifted". We need something positive and BIG to happen and Gruden is the key to making that possible. Even is he can coach and recruit at 50%, it's still going to be enough to get the results we all want. He's no dummy and I'm sure he'll surround himself with the best staff money can buy.

Successfully making this hire, in his first year, buys Mr. Currie immeasurable capital. He becomes a major power player in Knoxville, the SEC, and across the college landscape.

Landing Gruden would be beyond huge for Currie inasmuch as 99% of the sports media outlets say he won't coach again or won't coach in college at least. It would be the biggest splash in hiring since Alabama and Saban.

Here's my unsolicited take:

Last time I got sucked into this insider madness and was extremely disappointed when it didn't pan out. The Chattanooga newspaper articles really had me believing it was happening.

But, it didn't matter who was telling the truth and who was making things up because The Grude never showed up.

So this time I'm not falling for it. I'm not getting my hopes up. But damn it, I keep coming here to check this thread for information that I tell myself I won't believe.

I fear this will end with me again getting overexcited over an exaggerated rumor and we will once again end up Grudeless. I hope my fear is wrong, but I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst.

Come aboard. This is the happy place.
