Calm down lol the other two names were Mullen and Fuente (huge upgrades from Butch).
You can always bet on our local media throwing out a few wtf names during a coaching search.
Plus we don't really know where the VQ guys' heads are at right now.
Fuente isnt going to leave VT this early imo. Mullen doesnt excite me
I doubt Fuente leaves too. Mullen isn't all that exciting, but he's much better than Butch and has won more in a more difficult division in a tougher job.
My main point was just that the VQ guys throwing out Bobo with those names doesn't mean much.

Agreed on Mullen. They also said Morris tho 🤢, big trouble. Mullen and Fuente shouldnt even be in the top 5 imo
I'm not sure you're getting my point lol
I know overreacting to every little thing is your schtick and all, but the VQ guys aren't gospel. They're still talking in hypotheticals about Butch getting fired lol and we all know that's just an eventuality.
At this point, the number of people who have any real idea about the coaching search is absurdly small.
Mullen is slightly better than Butch. IMO I would not be excited
lol Butch would've kept Dak on the bench until he was a RS JR and struggled to make a bowl every year if he was at MSU over the same stretch.
Mullen isn't an elite coach, but give him a better job in a weaker division and he'll do pretty well. Probably would've had us in Atlanta in 2015 and 2016 with the offensive weapons we had.

Eh, make it to Atlanta and you never know. I'd be happy with getting to Atlanta every 3-4 years. NY6 bowls seem fun. I'd like to have some games in the Citrus or Sugar Bowl again.Yeah that just doesnt excite me at all. I want to win the east, but ultimately the goal is to win the whole dang thing. I want to hire a guy who we believe can win a national championship

But anyway, just a hypothetical:
Would you rather hire a guy who we've seen ample evidence could be a tier two Mark Richt type coach (8-10 wins consistently with trips to Atlanta every few years) or a guy with little HC experience who seems to have upside as a potential big time winner (but may end up not being big enough for the job)? Generally speaking, of course.
Personally, I'd go with the Richt type of guy. But I know others see it differently.
My thoughts sifting through the faux updates and coaching search fodder:
Butch sealed his own fate, but UT would have been happy to continue with him hovering around 8-5 wins for another year or two. Removing how badly this season has imploded I actually can understand that logic.
UT has an infatuation with blonde haired former Oakland coaches and hopes to cash in on round two. Gruden loves the university and attention but doesn't really want this job. I side with Nick on this, he has to be on the podium for me to believe.
My doubt is more about Gruden than UT though.
UT is recruiting scandal averse and will not pursue many of the popular experienced names (Kelly, Patrino) that are popular. I support this as well.
UT is also adverse to hiring another teams Fulmer so Les and Stoops are out. I agree with this also.
This leaves us duking it out for a handful of up and comers. Our ceiling is likely Frost and our basement is some google search guy.
All in on Frost and having endless debates if he will leave us for Nebraska.
I kind of think Currie will make a run at at least 1-2 current P5 HCs before focusing on an up and comer. Might get played for a raise, might find someone unhappy with his current place. Who knows.
All conjecture, though. Main reason I think we'll see him go after some sitting P5 guys is that you just know he had some names prepared to go after at the drop of a hat while he was at KSU. Likely some of the guys he'd kept his eye on previously (as up and comers) might be P5 coaches now.
I would rather go the up and comer route than gamble that a Mullen or Fuentes will lead us to the promised land. Dooley beat Butch and Butch beat Fuentes. No thanks.

KSU screams up and comer search more than reigning power 5 coach. For whatever reason we seem to have all our big chips on Gruden only. We aren't like the Texas schools that will spend until it happens. Thinking about it all I wonder if we miss out on guys like Frost if we wouldn't be better off taking a flyer on Tee.
You get a ton of former player support, asses in seats and he is a decent offensive mind.
