Joe, I finally got caught up and had a chance to read LWS in the other thread. I didn't get the negative vibe from it that you did. Different strokes and all, but I don't believe it changes where we've been at the last 24 hours.

I believe LWS recently stated that he is not as connected as he once was. I felt like he was giving his opinions there.

I’m hoping he’s not really wanting to wait another year.

According to LWS in the last 24 hours there is talk that Currie didn't want to make a change-does that mean he is keeping Butch?! What is LWS talking about? Everyone knows Butch is a dead man walking!

Could possibly be because Vols fans are true diehard fans who love their program and still show up to the tune of 96k+ to see an inferior product but support their boys...

To him, why change?

Of course, myself and all I know, apathy had set in, but I guess we don't matter...butts in seats/money talks.

It doesn't. What he said is correct but doesn't change the fact he has 'unoficially' been contacted. 100%.

There are probably some who are pressing hard not to make a change holding out hope that Butch may pull a monster upset against Bama. This is almost over and the realists in The AD know what has be done. I hope they do the right thing this time.

A couple of common sense observations re: CBJ- he was going through the presser today showing absolutely no enthusiasm about any part of his team, about the traditional rivalry with Bama, simply defensive and abrupt; and, when asked Saturday during the game for his thoughts on the program- Fulmer simply stated he was hoping for a Vols win, no talk of any kind supporting the coach.

Just seems like there truly is smoke to at least the rumors of Butch’s demise.

I think he said Currie would "prefer" not to...doesn't change the fact that it has to be done. Tough job and not ideal situation for your first year as AD, but he gets paid to do it...and I can't see how keeping CBJ is even an option at this point. I wouldn't sweat that part.

Currie went into this season wanting Butch to succeed. Circumstances have changed, obviously. I can't speak for LWS, but I'm not sure he meant that Currie was leaning toward not firing Butch, merely that he didn't want to have to pull the trigger. I could be wrong on that though. It wouldn't square with what I believe to be the current situation, but I'm in no way trying to call Larry out.

He's said numerous times though that his information is colored by his cynicism at how the admin has been running things.

Anyway, I took his comments in the other thread as general opinion. I'm still feeling good here. :)

I get that he would prefer not to-most of us would prefer to be undefeated going into Tuscaloosa this Saturday, it's the way he worded it "in the last 24 hours" got my attention.

If Currie doesn’t want/isn’t going to fire Butch then either one of two things is going to happen...

(1) Currie will have to give Butch an extension (No way in H3LL that happens!!!)

or

(2) If not given an extension then Butch walks (Best case scenario from a financial perspective)

Currie may not be “officially” doing anything himself but there is no way on God’s green earth that “unofficial” discussions are not being had. Currie would lose more than Butch’s buyout next year.

I think from a morale standpoint, if he fired him now and announced an interim, the air would feel so much lighter in Knoxville. The longer he waits, the worse it is going to get.

This. More than likely, we will get an interim even if Gruden does accept. It just makes sense that it will take him a while to re-locate and get settled in.

I want to believe, but this is eerily similar to 2012 when Hart didn't want to even fire Dooley and then was never on the same page as those who wanted Gruden. I am now wondering if Currie really wants Gruden or if all we are reading is a bunch of crap again. LWS is right about a lot of things, unfortunately.

...if Gruden is hired, he won’t start coaching this season...so yes, if butch is fired before season’s end, there will be an interim
