I am pretty confident in two things:

Butch will still be around in Nov.

Frost will get a serious 👀 (I actually believe he has already been reached out to, but I can’t really confirm it)

I have nowhere near the information you seem to have but I've been told Currie has contacted Frost directly.

I've also heard Butch is open to negotiating a settlement that ends this thing peacefully. He approached Sexton and Sexton approached Currie to get started.

Currie also made it known he's going to start talking to replacement candidates more intently.

I've wanted Butch gone more than anyone but I just keep trying to remind myself that the only thing that matters is who the hire is - not when it's made.

I have supreme confidence in John Currie.

Me too. There are only a handful of coaches that I would be absolutely fired up for, and Frost is one of them.

I guess we've already beaten it to death but the hires that would really get me fired up are.....

Gruden
Kelly
Frost
Patterson

Others out there I could learn to like but those would have me ready to go.

I was told the same thing. Also, that it was close to being done last night.

Mods: I posted this in the Football Forum, but because we've got a lot of other users here who don't venture to the other side, I'd be curious to get thoughts from RF as well.

I realize there are a dozen of these threads, so let the complaining commence.

The three biggest names I'm seeing consistently bandied about here in order of magnitude are Jon Gruden, Chip Kelly, and Gary Patterson. Granted that many other "big names" have been mentioned (Peterson, Stoops, Miles, Smith, Petrino, etc...), but these three seem to be the most likely, even if they're not actually very likely.

Okay, so on to the questions:

1) Of these three, whom would you most like to see named head coach of Tennessee (or rank them).

2) Of the three, Gruden has the most name recognition and seems to be the biggest splash. But, does his lack of college pedigree give you some pause? Does Lovie Smith's current record at Illinois?

3) Are you at all concerned that Chip Kelly's offensive/defensive scheme would not be able to withstand the big, fast defenses and hard-hitting running attacks of the SEC week in and week out?

4) Do you have concerns about Patterson's ability to recruit top talent to UT?

Thanks for indulging me.

If it was close to being done last night, that would explain the rumors into the night that Butch was going to resign. I could see Butch taking less buyout and resigning so he doesn't have to be fired.
