I am unbelievably shocked at the number of people posting, what I would typically consider as smart vol fans, that actually placed Chip Kelly in their top 3. Are you kidding everyone now has caught onto, i.e. Helfrich out as he me? You actually think he could succeed in the SEC? He created or improved over time a gimmicky offense that ran the same thing in the PAC-12 and couldn't win. Not counting extremely soft defenses at Oregon and even with all the Samoans on the D-line and O-line and they are notorious for being strong. His defenses would get destroyed in the SEC. Also, per his former players including the NFL, he disrespects his players. And don't give me the "He won the PAC-12 and made it to the BCS", really, the PAC-12 when they were down during those years and he still had to out scored everyone 52-45. And a physical team like Stanford beat him more times than anyone. If he was hired would be the softest TN team every assembled. Other than Mariota, how many NFL players did he produce that are doing well in the league? I really thought you guys knew your football a little better than this. I am literally shocked at the number of people choosing him. Wow, I can't even the understand the thought process. If we hire Chip Kelly, it would be about as bad as hiring Dooley.
A lot of inaccurate things here. Multiple players in the NFL. Chip Kelly beat Stanford twice with Andrew Luck on their team. He beat Pete Carroll, Jim Harbough, David Shaw, a top 10 Dantonio Michigan State team, a top 5 Snyder Kansas St team, and a top 10 Bielema Wisconsin team that had Russell Wilsona and Monte Ball to just name a few. Helfrich then took Chips players and system and had a Heisman winning QB and went to the NC while beating Florida State en route. His defense held Auburn, who was averaging 43pts per game and had the Heisman QB Cam Newton, to 22pts. A variation of the spread offense is used by almost every successful football team in college. Chip turned a philly team that was 29th in offense to a top 5 offense his first year in the NFL, won his division once and went to the playoffs twice which better than Saban and Spurriers tenure's in the NFL. His offense averaged 300yds per game and is not a "gimmick", like I said variation of the spread is used by teams like Clemson, Oklahoma, bama, tcu, etc. Scott Frost is considered one of the best up and coming coaches in the country and he uses the same offense as Kelly from his time at Oregon and he has turned an 0-12 UCF team into a 4-1 squad in his 2nd season. Gruden says Chip Kelly is one of the best offensive minds in all of college football as well, pretty high praise from a guy that is very respected in the football community

Let me "spew" another fact that you seem to miss. The PAC-12. Hello, when they were down. I didn't have to go looking up stats, etc. I could probably go back and look at the polls and see who from that conference was in the top 25 during those years but I haven't, I watched the games. I think Maryville High School could hold some of those PAC-12 teams to 21 points per. Really...? Oh, and I didn't see any comment about Stanford which would be the closest team the PAC-12 has to a SEC team. Or Helfrich, now that the PAC-12 is better? He's unemployed. And you think TN fans would enjoy his disrespect and smart a$$ comments. Doubt it. But I have not a clue what I'm talking about. Is that why Chip Kelly is out of coaching? Heard anything about any other schools begging him to come in the past couple of years? I just "spewing tho".
1- Chip Kelly
2- Dan Mullen
3- Tee Martin
4- Chuck Strong
5- Les Miles
While I hope to not have to go past option 1, I think 2/3 are solid fall back options and 4/5 are better than hiring coordinators (outside of Tee) or other mid major/up and comer coaches with zero name ID or recruiting prowess.
