Because he doesn't trust Austin pope to be where is supposed to be yet and he didn't want to take a chance of throwing it to a defender. That throw was more about making them respect the long pass.

So overthrowing is because he doesn't trust his receivers? I guess the announcers need to be educated by you too as they have said he needs to keep the ball in the field of play. If he doesn't trust the receivers, then we either need to quit throwing the ball or he needs to be on the bench.
