Very wishful.

What if we looked like a bag of smashed a-holes last week, because the staff and team took the patsie for granted and started prepping for UGA?

Maybe the loss to FL put made UGA a must win in the coaches eyes.

Maybe we were so vanilla because we didn't want to show UGA anything.

Maybe the team picked up on the virtual disinterest in UMass and fed off that general lack of energy.

Possible or wishful thinking?

Although probably wishful thinking, it is interesting to note that our 2 worst offensive production outputs were against the 2 creampuffs in our 2nd and 4th games. I know we had a lot of points against ISU, but we barely averaged 4 ypc on the ground. And we struggled mightily on the ground against UMass. I think at least some of it against ISU was lack of excitement after coming off the GT game 5 days earlier, and against UMass coming off the emotional loss against UF and then having the early start. And the OL should have Jashon back this week, and hopefully Shy. Of course, even if any of this is true, we will still have to play much, much better than we have shown so far this season if we have any chance of defeating UGA.

I never want UT to lose but I hat to say it, a little part of me wants us to get embarrassed Saturday so Butch will get fired.

Screw that. Saturday is going to be our biggest recruiting effort all fall, with kids from 2018, 2019, and 2020 in attendance. I hope Neyland is electric and we dominate uga and recruits fall in love with the Vols.

Agree. Can't lay an egg with all of these recruits there. Just hope our fans show up, and it's not 60:40 TN:GA fans. That will look terrible. I think Butch will be gone at some point this year no matter the outcome on Saturday. I am really hoping the team will rally and play with that no-quit attitude that we have seen from them so many games over the years. Realistically, I'm worried all of the locker room drama is way too much to overcome, and the players quit on Butch at the first sign of adversity during the game.

Can QD/CLS not play action pass off the handoff fake and achieve the same thing as QD running the ball? I just ask because we all seem to assume that UT needs a running QB but there are other ways to keep the defense honest, aren't there?

Not in this style of offense. IMO

Then isolate that little part of you, cut it out, smash it, then set it on fire. Scrape up the ashes and set it on fire again.

Then scatter what's left to the farthest corners of the earth.

I'll have to see us stop their running game before I believe it. Any QB with a pulse can throw against our defense and it'll be especially so when we have to keep 8 or 9 in the box. Defenses have figured out our offense - stuff the inside zone read and make Dormady drop back and pass.

Tennessee can win this game. But there's no evidence to support picking them to do it. Any scenario in which we win involves luck on our end or a a massive letdown on Georgia's end.

I think it will be close for a while. The only constant in the last 5 years has been fan support. The stadium will keep the team energized. But ultimately they have better players and better coaches.

I think if it stays close for a while that may favor UT. My bigger fear is that UGA jumps out on us big early, as they have done the past 2 seasons and the air goes out of the stadium, and the fight goes out of the team. If that happens...

Very possible. We come out flat in every game. Georgia is good enough to punish us for it. The only reason we were able to fight back last year was because we had Dobbs and Jim Chaney wouldn't run the ball.

My assumption is we're able to keep it close, maybe by getting a couple turnovers or some big play on special teams, but eventually they start running down hill on our front 7. UMass was gashing us up front. I expect UGA to do the same.

Shy was held out against UMass. If he plays Saturday it will help the run defense a lot because he can command double teams, which will keep UGA OLs from hunting our LBs. Kongbo also needs to be moved back inside. He simply cannot set an edge and almost always gets too far upfield on his pass rushes.

Also have to hope Jashon is back to set the interior of our OL, which will help our running game between the tackles, and if we can run inside will help the outside game and set up the play action. If we can't run inside we are pretty much dead on offense because the UGA defense is waybtoo fast on the edges and we simply cannot put the game on our inexperienced QB and receivers.

I think UGA will come out and smash us in the mouth early, taking the crowd out of it. I can see us getting down a couple of scores and having to come from behind. Dobbs bailed us out with his feet. Can QD bail us out with his arm? IMO, this game comes down to whether QD can take the next step. We know JKelly will give his all and then some, but UGA will try and take him out of the equation.

I can see our D rising to the occasion and Shoop and Hoke finally getting it together. But I'm concerned about our playcalling and QD. He's going to get pressured and hit hard-- a lot. How rattled will he get and can he stand in the pocket and overcome it? And will the coaches let him do that... or will they continue to run JKelly into a redbrick wall because they don't trust QD to throw downfield?

Not looking forward to seeing that sweep they run with a couple of OL pulling. They always kill us with that play, and we still can't defend it.

Should we put Coleman at C and move Jashon back to LG? Jones and Boulware have been struggling imo

Vols show what they showed offensively against Florida in the 4th quarter, but make enough mistakes to keep it close. Uga looks sharp as well and maybe even more like the better football team, but the crowd at Neyland will see enough to stay involved and uga will make a critical mistake in the 4th quarter, sealing the win for Vols. John Kelly has a great game. Chandler also 90 total yards. Abernathy redeems himself from the Uf embarrassment with a crucial int. Kickers still look questionable. Both teams lose players to injury. Uga wins time of possession and total yards. Vols 31-30.

It's a type of counter trey. As poorly as we have defended the edge I would imagine Shoop will be aligning the D to stop it. When you do you leave yourself easier to be gashed between the tackles. This is not going to be fun, because Fromm is mobile and they can run all kinds of play action off it. If Shoop pulls this off, he will have passed a major test in my book.

FWIW, Fulmer used the play a lot before he went with the bigger, slower O-lineman along with the Clawface O toward the end.
