GOP Senate candidate says 9/11 was God's punishment

We have a vice president who is a religious zealot. Religious zealots should not be involved in politics or in policy-making roles because their (often wacky) religious views influence their policies--and of course we see this in many areas. Religious crackers should stay out of politics. But there is also the problem of politicians who aren't religious but pander to the religious crowd--see Trump, for starters. We've had many public officials around the country--religious zealots--try to promote the teaching in creationism in public schools. Oh, my: fortunately, the courts have typically put an end to their craziness. It's an indication of how backward America really is--it's like we're getting more backward with each passing year instead of less so. The phenomenon of old rural people--but it's not just rural, of course. Look at Republican efforts to have birth control pills removed from basic employer-provided health insurance policies. Just medieval insanity.

It's interesting how you make the bolded statement, which is totally true, but then only mention conservative examples after it. There are people on the left who heavily pander to religious people when making arguments, particularly with the black community.

A politician's hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I would speculate that almost all politicians are atheist and the traits that allow one to be a successful politician allow them to b.s. voters about religion.

What a lovely thing to say. Should be a shoe in for the great state of Alabama.

Alabama gave us our racist Attorney General--that little pinch-faced gnome named Jeff Sessions--and the state continues to move backwards into the 21st century. The NYTimes had article about how localities have been setting up their own school systems for years to maintain racial segregation in schools, and yesterday there was a piece a black man who's been in prison in Alabama for 10 years--10 years--and still has not had a trial. In the South it's fine to be stupid and corrupt and racist so long as you invoke "god" a lot, and say the word "freedom" a lot, and don't forget to mention cracking down on crime---you'll be elected. Cracker State USA--and the rest of the South remains close behind.

So, when did you go through the brain transplant?

It's been at least 2 years at this point. It really came about with a better understanding of economics. And an understanding that pledging the money of others to a cause is in no way virtuous

Yah. I noticed some time ago and actually mentioned it a time or two already. Kudos to you.

You also seem to have "softened" (for lack of a better term) on more subjects than just politics.

It's been a wild and weird two years, agreeing with you as much as I have. Definitely made my skin crawl at first. :p
