Butch outing Dormady in his presser is a coach scrambling to deflect the heat.

He should just say we screwed up. It's my fault.

Placing blame on a college player publicly is never a good idea. Arkansas coach did this to his kicker recently. Bad bad look

What he say

The pressure is going to be on him every week now. I think him and the players will start to panic and its going to show. Hope I'm wrong. I hope especially for the players a leader steps up and says enough is enough we will no longer accept defeat. Georgia will be the test, then SC, then KY, then Mizz, then Vandy. It would be nice to get that one against LSU. They didn't look good against MSU either. The potential is there its time for the staff and players to step up and take it. But every week he is going to be coaching for his job and I don't know if they can handle the pressure.

Or he knows he is coaching for his job and opens up and lets things fly

He's thrown what? 10 passes? A couple of them were great throws but dropped. He can also run. What has QD shown to make anyone believe that he's better? His strength is as a passer and he isn't any good.

He doesn't have arm strength when you consider he doesn't step into half of his throws. No one does.

It also hasn't been his MO. Never did it to Hurd when he could have easily. Saban did it to Barnett.

I agree that he is deflecting because it is a change from his normal statements.

I guess I'm in a small minority. I still think we finish in the 7-5 to 9-3 range. I think we're a pretty good team, and the coaches (while clearly not elite) have proven they are good enough to keep us in that range.

We were at this exact point in 2015 after the Arkansas game, and then won 12 of our next 13 ball games if I recall correctly, and nearly beat Bama in Tuscaloosa.

Coaching or talent won't really matter if we keep losing guys to injury every week. We'll be fielding another skeleton crew by mid-October and be completely depleted by the time a confident Vandy comes to Neyland.

He explained why in the Press Conference. Said Dormady read a run blitz that our OL wouldn't have been able to pick up. Sounded to me like Coach thought Dormady made the right call when I heard it. Didn't come off as throwing his QB under the bus.

I agree. That whole sequence is my number one complaint with the game. There were other breakdowns and mistakes, but the rest seemed like fluky things that just happen in college football games (including the final play of the game). But there is no excuse for that sequence in the third quarter. That was entirely on Butch and completely his responsibility.

Neither QD or JG were put in a position to be successful by their coaches.

Dooley mostly did foolish things, but creating the "Beast" package to solve the problem of getting one tough yard was one of the good things he did. In 5 years, we've never gotten that from Butch. It's always trickery and finesse. He's lived by it, and I think it's likely that he has died by it.

But, regardless, I'm pulling for the boys. GBO!

That sounds better. Quote above sounds like he made a mistake

He didn't look ready to me. QD has shown he CAN do it. He just has to do it outside the 4th quarter.

Said Dormady checked out of the run play.

When he was doing that why not call TO???

Not defending him, but I don't see that as outing a player, because he said Dormady checked out of the running play. He still should have called TO and told Dormady to run the ball. He is the HC.

Jesse Simonton tweeted that Scott said only a week ago that Dormady has very little freedom with checks.... But he can do it on the goal line in a close game? BS butch is trying to cover his own ass

To be clear, there is literally NEVER a reason to cheer against the Vols EVER.

Eh, I never would personally, but I get it.

It's like if your kid is dating a terrible person. Some would say "it's never ever OK to hope your child gets hurt by a lover" while others would say "I hope he breaks her heart so she gets out of that relationship and can move on to a chance at happiness."

QD has played 3 full games and we can count on one hand the number of good throws that he has thrown. What has he done to show that he's better than Guarantano? With the opportunity, I believe JG's would be better.

I think so too. Run blitz or not just sneak it and we're 3-0. Football 101.

Dormady checked out of plays against ISU. Apparently, Swain and others have agreed that Dormady checked out of the run, too.

I don't necessarily agree that Butch is covering, but the message is clearly inconsistent.
