I agree with most of your points, but I am not sure that your last example is great. I have watched that sequence again too. The players are talking and celebrating, and both CBJ and Azzani are calling for "Mike" (Debord). Azzani had taken his headset off, and they were looking for the next play call. This is what made me think that Butch truly doesn't call plays because they were looking for the call from Debord. But CBJ can certainly provide his input through the headset.

You could definitely be right about that, and my example may not be applicable. However, I maintain that the big moments are always too big for him.

Scott should be the main one getting the criticism this week. No idea why he is getting a pass

As soon as Callaway was tackled at the 1, Butch should have screamed into his headset to run a damn quarterback sneak 3 times and impose our will on these wretched gator defenders. Same think against Oklahoma in 2015. The OC shouldn't have even had a say in the matter.

I did see shotgun on first and goal at the one yesterday in the NFL...but they ran it and scored.

I saw it two other times and it was a pass. The shotgun elimates the qb sneak but maybe you can do enough other things out of it that it is a wash even though I will never get used to it. But then again I will never get used to gay marriage either so maybe I am just set in my old fashioned ways.

For being Mr Reliable accdg to a shoop, Abernathy has been part of two of the most embarrassing plays of the last two years being in the wrong place trailing the play.

Don't understand why he was moved from corner. He doesn't like to tackle.

Butch is an idiot if he doesn't go JG Saturday to give him a cupcake game as starter before UGA. again. It blaming Q for everything as several times it's not his fault but he is making bad decisions as well. So might as well go with the future and a guy that opens up the strength of your teaminstwad of relying on young WRs to be in the right spot

I agree but we can't have it both ways. We can't criticize butch for this while the same time criticizing him for not letting his cordinators do their jobs.

Can't even process the Florida game. Going to just have to flush it and get ready for a program changing game against Georgia.

Win that we still have a shot. Lose it and it is time to move on.

Welp.

I haven't posted on social media or even visited VolNation since Saturday. Despite the disappointments of last season, we still beat Florida and Georgia in the same season. But my goodness, it is going to be difficult for me to be excited for another Tennessee football game this year. If we can't beat a FL team that looked that bad in their first two games, I don't have much hope for the rest of the season.

And I am the cautiously optimistic guy. Feels a lot like 2012 for some reason.

Ya know, after a day and a half to settle down and re think a lot of things. Even through all the complete bone headed decisions by CBJ, the Vols had every opportunity to win that game, and from what I recall, left at least 13 points off the board, 2 missed FG, and 1 dropped TD pass (2 on the same drive).
Final score should have been 33-26.
At the end of the day, it comes down to execution, and some of the players did not execute.
I know we all want to blame CBJ, and he has a heavy burden to bare, and honestly has a lot of questions that need answered as far as personnel and substitutions. However, as far as Florida, we should have won that game, and his coaching gave us that opportunity, the players just didn't perform when needed. (yes I'm directing this at you Medley, and the other kicker in which I can't pronounce, and maybe even a little at Palmer, Martin and Abernathy... lol)

This. I think he has taken a more sit back approach and is letting his coordinators call the shots. If you're saying you need to run at the 1 and you didn't call it or override then seems he is giving his assistants more power.

I like the post but did you really mean to put Martin in the list of those to blame?

It is more than just the one game. That game just was a clear demonstration of the many problems

It's on everyone. Play calling in the red zone was trash. You got to run the ball at least 2-3 times. But at the same time players do need to execute the calls made no matter the situation. Also end of game defense is terrible three times this has happened, twice now to Florida and one we got away with at Georgia. Players always win the game and coaches lose it.

Even if we win out the rest of the season (which isn't happening) I'm still going to be in full blown apathy the rest of the season. Just really don't care. Thought about taking my son to his first game this year, and still might. But the thought of spending money and going to a game just doesn't seem fun. I'm just kind of over it at this point.

It's ridiculous and absurd how we can't suck less than Florida on an annual basis.

I haven't been to Neyland since the Oklahoma debacle in 2015. I'll buy a ticket for whatever game is immediately after the coaching change.

Yep. And there are a lot of shortcomings. But, let's just focus on coaching your players (and coaches) to defend a game-losing pass at the end of a game.

- 2015 FL
- 2016 UGA
- 2017 FL

There is no getting better...no improvement.

theres so many games where we had a big lead and lost or had a shot to win it and crapped our pants. It keeps happening and he keeps giving cliches. Its just so old now. Hes stubborn as hell and he wont change. So somebody else is gonna have to.
