"We only have 27 guys who played in the swamp ".. CBJ

He actually said all that, talked about the areas he was disappointed in what we need to improve in and they had to do a better job. He just can't help himself to add something random.

Travel squads are usually majority upperclassmen. We'll probably always have a low number of returners after 2 years.

Maybe he got on VN and looked at the "Pick the UF Score" and thought holy ____ .:)

If it was when he said it at the press conference, I checked it out, not as bad as it sounds here.
Paraphrasing but basically said we had to get off to a fast start because it takes a mature football team to play in the swamp and we had a low number players familiar with doing so. Basically in response to a question if we needed to get off to a fast start and he said yes and and that was his explanation as to why.

Personally would have preferred he didn't bother mentioning it but no reason for OP's dogs armpits to be chapped, I'm certain I got that wrong but hopefully close.

Thanks, been on the roof repairing from irma and haven't listened to anything. Figured it was a pretty innocuous statement. Likely a stat someone mentioned to him and he threw it out there. Local media should thank him for the research

Coaches are required to talk so much I'm surprised anyone truly cares anymore about what they're saying. Wish I had that much time on my hands

Because it's likely in his contract that he needs to talk to the media. So actually he is doing what he's paid to do

Anyone freaking out about this actually fact check the statement? Is it incorrect? Also, what was the context for the statement? That is usually pretty important in threads like this

He basically said that there were only 27 players on the roster who had played in the Swamp before, so they're going to have to show the guys who haven't been there yet how to go about their business while they're down there. Nothing worth losing the plot over honestly.

It's good that he did say a lot of the right stuff. My point is he needs to quit saying the other crap, because the media will take it, spin it, put it in headlines, just to get clicks.

Is it just me or does 27 guys seem like an OK number? I mean, the majority of the guys playing in our first string this upcoming Saturday are juniors and seniors. Don't even know why he bothered researching this useless stat.

27 seems normal. I mean Barnett only got to play there one time because he went to the NFL early. Most guys will only get to play there once, possibly twice if they decide to stay all 4 years or don't transfer out of the program. He's just trying to spin things through the media.

I have my doubts about CBJ like many on this forum. But some of you guys are allowing CBJ to live rent free in your head. Not every snippet or sound bite is worthy of discontent.

I hope a little bit of roof damage was the worst that happened, good luck.

Way past that stage, he's never going to stop. It's reached the point as McDad suggested, that if it bothers someone, they're better off just ignoring him.

Georgia just took a freshman QB into South Bend and won. How young or inexperienced you are is meaningless in today's sports age. If you're good enough to play you should be on the field. Put the talent on the field and it will take care of itself.

Throw in that both Clemson and Alabama played 20+ freshmen apiece in last year's title game on offense and defense, not just on special teams.

Get the talent, develop the talent, coach the talent, play the talent....that's what the best do.....not constantly dig for excuses for why you shouldn't win a difficult game on the road.

Yep.

It seems the context was fas t starts / we have to star t fast -- I like that, so come on D, get a turnover, or come on Dormady and Kelly and get that ball to the end zone !

In context it sounds ok, but even so, it still has a little bit of excuse feel to it -- enough that it's better left unsaid. Better to just say the typical coachspeak about it being a "challenging opponent, especially on their home turf... It'll be especially important for all our players to stay focused on doing their jobs, minimizing mistakes, playing with intesity..." etc.

Geeze! How many "individuals" ever played in Mercedes Benz Stadium? How many ever played GT on the road? Before that game he mentioned GT having the advantage of holding a practice there. Smh! Comes across as petty excuses.

Hard to comprehend how/why Butch can't seem to learn that it's best to just stick to basic coach speak, own the things that need improving and state that he, his staff and players are working hard to get better in those areas.

It's refreshing to listen to coaches who get that and do it -- like Mark Stoops, Boom & Mason.

You Sir, need to be focused on the communication problem between the staff and your foreign born freshman QB.

That was really bad.

For anyone unfamiliar, one of their fans wanted to know if Alabama had been doing anything special to communicate signals with their QB since he came to the United States.

He's from Hawaii.
