He seems to think he'll play Sat. Even if he is cleared, I'm not sure Mac plays him. Again, on social media he was confident he'll play vs UT.

It is a decision that could cost McElwain his job if he chooses wrong. I would say he plays it safe and holds all the questionable players out simply because the NCAA can step in any minute and vacate a boatload of wins.

HG, when I saw the weather hitting South Florida, I thought about you. I hope you didn't take it on the chin too hard.

Thanks for the concern. Fortunately we moved from Sofla over a year ago. We still own our townhouse there and the old neighborhood took a beating. Haven't spoken to renters about the damage yet.

Some Florida fans on the Swampgas forum are talking today about what they need to do to prepare for the Tennessee game:

Prepare the offensive line by doing color recognition drills. Coaches need to make sure that the offensive line can differentiate between Tennessee orange and Florida orange when it comes to blocking.

Would be disgusted if they wrap this up prematurely and let them play... would be a sham

I hope they push to get them eligible but we still kick their ugly asses and they later get ruled ineligible and have to forfeit the 2 games they win this year (one of those being against Georgia to help ensure we win the East). Their recruiting class falls apart, finishing dead last in the FBS but Stricklin feels sorry for the shark humper and gives him another year or 2 to continue to decimate their roster. He also insists that they keep Nussmeier to ensure their offensive "identity" remains unchanged going forward.

Still one of the funnier things I've seen in football.

Just one man's understanding but it didn't seem to me to be an eligibility issue. No payments from boosters or anything like that. They received legal (by NCAA terms) money (on a debit card not eligible for Atm withdrawal) from the school, spent that money on electronics from the school bookstore where those debit cards can be used, then resold the electronics for cash. Nothing about that got them in trouble. They then reported their cards as stolen and that those purchases were not made by the cardholder and got new cards/refunds.

In these cases normally doesn't the NCAA accept a game suspension and to pay back the amount that was stolen?

Uhhh.... you do understand that is fraud and illegal right? If this is proven, they should be kicked out of school....

If you bet against the Vols then you can't lose. You either win money or you get to celebrate a victory.

I thought about that one time about 15 years or so ago but it felt dirty so I don't do it. :)

From the Swampgas forum:

Tennessee Vols (+8) at Florida Gators - maybe the guys in Vegas know something we don't, but they are predicting us to win pretty easily this weekend; no matter the location, which based on the rapidly weakening hurricane is probably going to be the Swamp!

Blows my mind. I think it should be the other way around.

I'm going into the game expecting more of the same

This game is one of my favorite games every year but this year for some reason I just don't know what to think about it. It's one of those games I want us to win so bad

It should be a good game though

The only thing Vegas is predicting, is the % of people who will place $ on each team under a given line. IOW - the line is in no way a prediction of the outcome; it's a lose reflection of the betting public's perception.
As for this particular line, I would expect it to drop to 7.5 very quickly and perhaps dip below 7 before kickoff. If the game is not played in G'ville, it will almost certainly drop below 7.

Saw 5.5 already. Even 5 at some places. Bad line at 8.
I'd take UT+8 and RUN

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that we were favored.

The line is now down to 4 or 4.5, depending on your favorite betting locale.

Is the +8, how many rushing yards we are going to get total against Tennessee or the total amount of points we will score

I understand the legal issue for sure. What I mean is, if they were to play this Saturday and Florida beats us then all these players are found guilty of credit card fraud, they wouldn't necessarily be made to vacate any wins. So they're doing the right thing "morally" I guess - I'm just surprised a major football program would do the right thing. Especially with a coach on the hot seat.

They may be worried about the inevitable questions concerning how all these teenagers paid back so much money so fast. Now that the spotlight it on them, they are probably more concerned with making sure nothing can come back and bite them than they are about doing the right moral thing.

I think that probably goes on everywhere

I agree with that.

The "impermissible benefit" part comes in when Florida gives them new cards after theirs are spent(stolen). That's the part UF is probably concerned about but I doubt they will get in any trouble for it. Probably wise to sit them out until it is resolved though. Especially since those guys are under criminal investigation now.

The guys that reported their cards stolen could be in more serious doo doo. If some of them just sold stuff then those guys will be back sooner rather than later.
