Fulmer level as a championship threat. Can play with anyone, anywhere and at anytime. Nationally respected everywhere..... Right now he has Tennessee as a JOKE.....

Now, you lost me. Fulmer got old and lazy as EVERYONE knows. He got out coached by the new hot shots. He was not hired by any team afterwards to prove my point. Kiffin believe it or not, was the "right" hire at the time. 20-20 shows he was the WORST hire ever.

However, you are spot on with the joke reference. We are not respected nationally currently and his lame quotes don't help.

No, we were a joke under Dooley. The media is just using his comments as fodder to drive clicks. If we were a complete joke, we wouldn't be ranked, like we never were in the Dooley years, except one time.

Dooley making us a bigger joke does not mean Butch Jones has not made us a joke still.

Yeah can't give me a real answer huh?

Not sure if I'm being honest. Keep hoping he can figure it out. However, I don't want another up and comer. If the move is made, I want a homerun. Someone we know can coach, and will also be able to sell TN to recruits.

That's very rare in today's game.

We need to have recruiting classes like the one were having this year every single year, if we want to be elite. By elite meaning top 10 annually like Clemson, Bama, Ohio st, LSU, FSU.

Comparing to a Hall of Fame coach is not entirely realistic (imo) Fulmer inherited a program with a much stronger foundation and yes his first 7 years were strong. However he want 8 - 7 in bowls games with all 7 losses by double digits. CPF's last 4 years were 29 -21 or a winning % of .580...

Care to guess what CBJ win % is ? It is .588

Not saying CBJ is the answer but does deserve to see how this year ends up.

"Elite" talk is so dumb right now.

We haven't won the freakin east in 10 years. If you are asking when we are gonna contend for a national title then you need a reality check.

Finished last 2 seasons ranked. Currently ranked now. We are A LOT better off than we were under Dooley...the real joke. I can't believe I'm even having to argue this. Whatever. It's amazing how fast all of you have forgotten how far we fell. Smh. Am I satisfied with average... no. Am I willing to take a risk at an unknown commodity if we are winning 8-9 games a year? I don't think I am. Am I willing to take the risk if I know 100% that the UT brass will hire a proven P5 or better HC? Yes. Until that point, I'm willing to roll with Butch and hope he figures it out, because I don't think the UT brass will fork out the money for the known commodity. JMO.

It's a special kind of pitiful to see guys stake their speculations on the Vols failing. Can't even suspend their need to foresee the worse 'til things play out a bit. Not much of a way to enjoy Tennessee football. I hope for the best. Not putting money on the games. I have followed Tennessee football long enough to know the emotional dagger of a season falling short of expectations. Have slowly learned to enjoy and focus on the good of Tennessee football. But you guys carry on. I mean you could be right.

I feel the exact same way.

I want Tennessee to succeed as much as you. I'm just highly concerned with our defense. There are some really positive things I have seen as well. For instance, our STs might literally be the best in the country. I just believe that in order to win the east we must fix our defense immediately.

I'm being 100% genuine when asking this. Who is a (realistic) better replacement on the market? What coach out there could we get to replace would be an obvious improvement. Florida and Georgia could only pull McElwain and Smart with the same amount or program prestige (or whatever you'd like to call it) and better recruiting home states.

If we made a move, it would likely be to a G5 guy. I don't really see us hiring a guy from another P5 school, not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

I think there are a lot of great G5 coaches out there right now though. IDK who it will be, but I'd be willing to bet one of the next great CFB coaches is currently building his resume in G5. IDK if the timing will be right for us to hit on the next big guy to come out of G5 though.

Coaches who seem to be poised to make jumps to P5 over the next 1-3 years:

Scott Satersfield: App State (though admittedly a harder pull because he coaches at his Alma Mater)
Scott Frost: UCF (likely needs another year or two)
Frank Wilson: UTSA (he needs a lot of time to cut his teeth, IMO, but dude is already a MONSTER recruiter with in roads to LA and got UTSA to their first ever bowl game his first year as HC)
Mike Norvell: Memphis (likely needs to show more over the next year or two)
Chad Morris: SMU (Destined for aTm job, IMO)

Chief, maybe it is the exotic offenses we have seen thus far. Maybe, just maybe, he is playing vanilla the first 2 games of the season. I don't understand what I have seen thus far. All I know is it's very worrisome to this point how we have taken a reactionary style of defense against inferior opponents, namely Indiana. We will get dismantled against teams with similar talent if we continue our current defensive game plan. I was a huge fan of the Shoop hire in the beginning. Something has changed though, it's like he isn't even controlling the defense anymore.

That's me I just don't know what's up with the defense. Florida game should tell us about all we need to know.

You're joking right? So Butch ruined our program too, by that logic.

Butch is an easy target because EVERYTHING he says is blown up by Fans on twitter and Knox media. But 90% of his comments are taken out of context (champions of life for example). It's funny tho, Dabo Swinney said nearly the EXACT same thing about Champs of life, but he got praised for it. Fleck has tons of gimmicks just like Butch but he's praised as creative for it. That's why Tennessee is viewed as a "joke" by the media, it has nothing to do with our play.

I don't know. He may not ever. I just think we should let him fail before we fire him.

To many he already has. Our fan base is the best there is but we are scary in terms of expectations. I want to be elite as much as anybody but CBJ took over a Conference USA roster and had us competitive in most games by year three. We hit a speed bump in year four and everyone is trying to shove CBJ off the bus. The thing is we are gambling if we do that. I'd rather let Butch drive a while longer. At least we are moving down the road in the right direction.

I'm pretty much here. I might be willing to trade Butch for the right G5 coach if I thought he was out there. There are some promising guys there now, but I'm not sure the timing is right to snag the right one.

Unless we end up looking something like 6-6 this year and/or have ugly losses to teams like Vandy, I'm good to roll with Butch. Not sure how I feel about Shoop, at this point, though.

I want to know, when will we be Elite under Butch Jones?

This. I want to be up there with the Clemsons, Florida States, Oklahomas, Ohio States, etc. That's not unrealistic. Tennessee is an all time top 10 program and that's where the expectations should be IMO. Not saying Butch can't get us there, but this year probably will tell all with him.

It may just be me but Chad Morris has the name of a great coach. Like ya know how some ppl have those names and ur just like "Yup he's gonna be really good".

Not saying this is false, but my God the meltdown that would occur.
