We lost to Vandy already. Dang I must've slept through the year. How'd we do?

So you missed the "If"

Jesus I understand y'all want it to be one way but dude clearly said If , as if we didn't just lose down the stretch to both gamecocks and Vandy

Why? These aren't the days of spurrier' gstors or Even early Richt's dawgs. Beat Bama and LSU and show us something. Stop getting out coached in big games. beating Mac & Kirby ehhhhh.

These aren't the days of Fulmer anymore either. Jay, I want to be among the elite as much as anyone, but if we beat both of those teams again this year, which means we start out 5-0, then he has silence enough of the critics to deserve at least an extension. Lose to Vandy again, and that might change things. Honestly, as I mentioned above, I am very torn as to which camp I fall in. I really want Butch to succeed, because he has given so much to this program, and it is in 1 million times better shape now than it was when he took over. However, I expected a different team this year. I expected us to be a lot more physical. I expected us to tackle a whole lot better. We look extremely soft at multiple positions, outside of a handful of players who seem to play mad...I want 22 of those players on the field for our team… We probably have a 5 to 7.

If he beats both of them this year, then I say give him at least an extension immediately after the Georgia game.

how about we get through SC and Vandy... then start looking at that... I'm sure folks were saying the same thing after the Hail Mary last season and looked what happened.

That's where I am.
Those were the equivalent of Dooley's Kentucky game.

LOL! Are you serious? Losing those two games certainly was terrible, but they do not come close to being on the same level as losing that Kentucky game against a WR playing QB. You're better than that, Jay.

Fair, we're not Fulmer. And he had us rolling and we still didn't beat those two back to back but other than missteps vs a Florida, Bama or UGA, we didn't lost to less talented teams (year in and year out, yes there are outliers)
Doesn't it seem like we've expected something different than what we've got every year since Butch's 1st year.

Still can't get out my head how we wasted Derek Barnett's domination. Just can't shake that

If I am being honest, I am not sure which camp I am in. I really thought this team would come out and play more physical, like the teams under Butch in his first three years. I see a little bit of that in a few players, but nowhere near the majority. That disappoints me. I did notice we were a lot more disciplined especially Monday night. I can understand having a few lapses yesterday, considering the short week and opponent. I am still impressionable, and certainly would like to have my mind changed by seeing a more physical team come out this Saturday.

Here's my take. TIFWIW.

Both opening opponents ran unconventional offenses. Both teams run these offenses to try a negate your talent advabtage, in particular your speed. They make you play diciplined, assignment football requiring players to think. Thinking takes your aggressiveness away. I also believe that GATech was a survive and advance type of game plan meant to minimize chances of injury.

I may be wrong but I think we'll see a different football team particularly on defense. The odds makers have it at about a push if your consider the points they give for home field advantage. I think it's a close game and could go either way. Am I 100% confident? Absolutely, not.

I'm very serious. Position by position, even with injuries, we had more physical talent then those two teams combined.
Is that an incorrect assessment?

If we beat both UGA and UF but lose to Vandy then something catastrophic happened later in the season. Vandy looks like they will be a solid opponent but we should not lose to them. However, I won't be ready to throw Butch under the bus if we do. Under that scenario, we would be 5-0 and should be ranked around 10th. The bottom would really have to fall out from there for us to finish less than 10-2 IMO. Of course it happened last year when a large number of our first and second stringers on defense were out for most of the second half of the year. I think we have some things to clean up but we are 2-0 and are back onto the regular game week schedule from here on.

A bunch more injuries is one of the things that happened. I am not defending and justifying that Butch is an elite gameday coach or anything. He certainly has a lot of room to improve. However, we could do a whole lot worse. Do I want to be mediocre? Absolutely not! I keep hoping to see Butch growing as a head coach and doing some things better, because I am not sure I want to risk going down that path of hiring another coach and risking making a bad decision, that ends up leaving us in the dumps again.

Two things that I think Butch is elite at currently… Recruiting and motivation. He may fall short in a lot of areas, but those young men absolutely play their hearts out for him. Make fun of him all you want about some of his quirky game day decisions, but him being an elite motivator is a fact.

5-0 isn't good enough for an extension when you play 12 games.

It is funny on one hand because most of the posters that are in a big hurry to have Butch fired will be the ones complaining that we won't go after a big name guy if we actually did fire Butch. They are in such a big hurry to get rid of a decent coach that could be a good to great coach but they forget that UT traditionally won't go after a big name coach and will whine incessantly if we don't even though they knew we wouldn't.

I think that makes sense but I think the last one qualifies as a run on sentence.

Fulmer's teams just out-talented so many teams, and it wasn't even close with some of them. Yet, he only won 1 NC. Talk about coaching...an elite coach wins multiple with all the talent he had. And don't get me wrong, I'm not bad mouthing CPF...I'm grateful for all the time he gave and continues to give our program. I think all the talk and pressure from media and fans has gotten Butch puckered up so tight that he can't hardly walk. Earlier, someone mentioned they want the Butch who called the UGA 2014 game like his hair was on fire. I think all the pressure has gotten him so scared to make big calls and big moves due to repercussions, that he ha all of these conservative game plans, until we are down big enough that he throws caution to the wind. I think he could do very well somewhere that doesn't have a rabid fanbase that puts so much pressure on him. We eat our own. Just my opinion. TIFWIW

Really hope you are right, buddy.

Call me crazy but after watching the game replay on TV I'm actually excited about this defense. Would've liked to see some turnovers and some of the young guys get in there earlier but I liked what I saw coming off a short week playing a "meh" opponent.

Prob more talent, but no true DTs. Plus, we were dealing with the prima Donna at SC. Just so many factors involved. Should we have won? Yes. I still don't think those 2 games are on same level on Dooley and UK game.

Brooooo ... Depth is still a massive issue in year 5. That isn't elite recruiting.

How many good teams do we beat playing like that upfront in both sides of the ball?

I expected and wanted to see domination.
Game plan has nothing to do with whupping ass up front. That is a for sure place Where we dominate vs the Indiana states of the world
