2017 Vols will have the #1 or #2 ranked DEFENSE in the SEC

Love the enthusiasm but that is not going to happen. We were horrible last year so I am just looking for improvement.

Our corners are absolute trash I hope Wiggins starts day one

Justin Martin and Emmanuel Moseley are extremely talented. Martin won the spring award for best defensive player while Moseley was chosen by his teammates as a representative for SEC Media Days.

I think they both have the inside track on starting at the 2 corner positions this fall. And I believe both will perform extremely well.

Ok. You got Julio Jones,CJ Mosley,Hightower, Ha-Ha Penis and Landon Collins...what? No linemen? We got Eric Berry and Cordarrele Patterson. 5-2 advantage. Awfully impressive since you've been sucking up 5 stars and farting out All-Americans since before Fulmer left and we're a program that had a kicker as our fastest pro day participant as recently as 2013...you smoked us by 3 brah! :)

Keep trying, you and WD share more in common about your team than you might otherwise think.

I agree that our defense will be sound this year and maybe better. Only issue I still see is at LB.

Seriously, just look at this fatty fat fat...

Wish I could get my stupid iPhone to insert the picture of TKJr in Cali last year....for some reason had his shirt off, had no fat anywhere, had 6 pack abs and carved obliques....and D4H pretty much said he was fat, had love handles and wasn't in "football shape", and he got roasted on here for saying so. Not sure what axe he has to grind with TK, but it was an odd take/response.

Teammates don't choose who goes to media days slick. Head coach does.

Yeah and we've seen Butch send guys who don't play much before. Sending Mack Crowder in 2015 when everybody knew Thomas was gonna be taking his spot at some point or another, for example.

No way to tell if the coaches picking Moseley was just them throwing him a bone for buying in and working hard for 4 years or if they really see him as a team leader.

Where's Will Ignont?! Defintley will need him to perform well to have a serviceable LB corp. That position group has me worried.

Actually, I have no reason to be confident in the defense at this point. Despite injuries we got rolled over by some of the most inept offensive units in college football (Mizzou, SC, Vandy). Teams were running 400 yards against us. Absolutely embarrassing! There is no excuse for that!

Everyone wants to be optimistic in the offseason, but if our defense plays even half as bad as it did during the last four game stretch of last season than we will be lucky to make it to a bowl game. Really need our DL five star recruits to ball out.

I am actually a bit hopeful for our DB unit. I think the new coach will hold those guys accountable and get the most out of our players. Nigel Warrior, Tk Jr, Shaq Wiggins, Rashaun Gaulden, Baylen Buchannon, Marquill Osbourne have all flashed at times. And also, if anyone can coach up Justin Marin it is Charlton Warren.

Will Ignont redshirts or balls out on ST this season...JRM style...injuries affect that of course

Will Ignont is a beast! He committed here because he did his due diligence and believed TN was the best opportunity to gain early playing time for a contending team. And I think he has the ability to earn alot playing time and eventually break the starting lineup next to DK! In the very least he will provide good competition for Bituli and be in the rotation.

Doubt it! Who is going to play over him McDowell and Jumper?! Jumper has gotten his chance. He may shine in practice, but he is limited when the lights come on and everyone is at game speed. McDowell looked a bit out of place last year as well when he got a chance. Ignont should contend with Bituli to start alongside DKJr.

Berry,McDowell,Jumper, dude in the Smokey costume, Bates in a pinch. Whomever isn't a true freshman needing a little development. As previously stated, all contingent on injuries, but Reid or Page get the call before Ignont, imo.

Why not Ignont over the others? What concerns does he have? I have yet to hear much of any reporting tied to his name. but he has experience playing at IMG and he was pursued by LSU, Auburn, and Alabama in the recruitment process but chose us. He obviously feels confident he will break the lineup to leave his home state of Alabama. Agree to disagree, but I like his stats, his tape, and will be surprised if he sits for too long. I see a similar path for him as DKjr. Stat out on Special teams. Ball out. Get an opportunity to start. Ball out. Be a full time starter.

High school stats+High school=grain of salt. I brought up the JRM factor and if he falls in line with that? He ain't in the conversation of starting until next season. Kirkland gets injured and we start talking. Neither Bama or Auburn were options for him (not sure why) so escaping Alabama was no big feat. LSU showed interest but he was a backup plan and Ogre leaked that like a dumb***. Glad to have him and he might end up one of those underestimated stories, but some things are going to have to go wrong for it to happen this season.

DK enrolled early and had a chance to learn the playbook and get adjusted to college life well before Ignont.

Maybe he'll be too good to keep off the field, but honestly I don't see him beating out DK Jr and Bituli to be the MLB in his first semester on campus, barring injuries. Shannon Reid might be closer to getting time with the first or second team defense than Ignont, TBH. Going through spring practice is a big advantage.

FTR LSU really wanted Ignont because they needed LBs bad last class.

You might have him confused with Monty Rice (who was slow played by a couple SEC teams, LSU included) or Reid (who committed to UT after LSU wouldn't take his committment unless changed his plans to enroll early).

No it's cool guys, all this means is we can look forward to another post where he trashes the team then acts like he was kidding, and later a crap ton of excuses when's he wrong from the guy that doesn't make excuses.

Those "I am done with this team" posts are truly grand.

This bump made me laugh. D4H and all of film study seems to be a little off in this prediction.

D4H makes me laugh in general. His meltdown last year is my all time favorite thing I've read on Volnation.
