Want to gauge your level of interest.
If you have been a staunch Vol fan for over 20 years, tell me your level of interest with 10 being the most excited you've ever been for a season and 1 being the least interested and excited.

Been a fan since about 1966 and I'm always interested in and excited about the team every season, so I don't know how to put a number on that.

I could throw out there a 9.5, but I have no reason to ding 'em 0.5 for anything, and am every bit as interested and excited about the season as I was this time last year.

Hard to answer really. I mentioned it a few weeks ago. I'm more excited about this year than I can remember, but I say that every year. I'm always excited for season to start just because it's been so long since the last, and every year I'm more excited about different reasons than others.

Probably didn't explain that very well, but yea to answer the question, for me it's over 10.

Edit: I just noticed the poll and the options. My excitement level is off the charts, but I can't say I think it's 1998 again.

Neat poll idea.

Horrible descriptions for each choice. They have nothing to do with the question asked. Complete lack of logic.

But it was a good poll question, anyway.

The descriptions were me just funnin around some.
Had I been literal....
1 - no interest.
5 - average amount of interest.
10 - as much interest as ever.

Ah! See, I'd have answered '10' there. By trying to find a descriptive element that fit, I got thrown off your actual question. Answered '8' instead. But I'm as interested in this season as any season ever.

If the question is how excited I am then it is always a 10, even during the Dooley years. It is Tennessee football y'all, I am just pumped the season is almost upon us.

If the question is how well I think Tennessee will do then I would say I am cautiously optimistic. We lost a lot but there is talent all over the field and some pretty decent depth. Here's to hoping we get over the hump.

Hmm.

Would like to vote but since the desciptions are so ridiculous, its hard to take part in this poll.

8 choices are senselessly overly negative. It seems as if you're funnelled into either moronically comparing this year to a possible national championship season or incontinence.

Id say its definitely less than 92,93, 95,96,97,98,99,00,01, maybe less 02,03,04,05, but then im older, less blind in my optimism, more rational, less likely to get excited.

But im at least as excited as last year. And last year i was more excited than i'd been in a long time.

Borderline negavol IMO.

I would have answered '9' , but I only peed a little.

As for expectations, 1997 was a 10, there hasn't been one before or since that came to that level, but this year is extremely high.

The week before the season I'm always at a 20.

This article was written in 1995 and it explains why every year is always the same.

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com...28_1_pappaw-college-football-squirrel-hunting

Absolutely love that article, Chatta, get goosebumps every time I read it.

Love this part the best:

Tennessee Volunteer Go Big Orange college football, to be precise, is much much more than that.

It's crisp autumn afternoons with chicken barbecuing, bands playing and trees trying to out-pretty each other. It's riding down the river as part of the Vol Navy and singing ''Rocky Top'' 400 or 500 times in an afternoon.

The trees trying to out-pretty each other. The writer, Jake Vest, has a gift turning phrases.

And there's stuff in there a big portion of VolNation could learn from. This bit in particular:

What's most remarkable about this is that I don't think Pappaw had any notion of what a football game was. It wasn't mentioned in the Bible so he had no reason to have ever read about it, and he sure had never attended a game. He had no idea what those Mississippians were doing.

But he knew they were doing it to ''us.'' And he was against it. He never set foot on the University of Tennessee campus in his life, but he was a Vol and a mighty good one if I might say so myself.

If you can understand my Pappaw, you can probably understand the relationship between Tennessee football and Tennessee football fans. If you can't, there's not much reason to try to explain it.

It's an ''us'' vs. ''them'' proposition. If you're one of us, you know how we feel; if you're not, I'm not sure I want you to know.

Thank you, Chatta. Thank you, Jake. Go Vols!

Excited as I am EVERY year.
NOT as much anticipation as last year with MANY unknowns.
Your Poll Descriptions are a "10" on the "SUCK Meter".

I am honestly a 10 this year. I only responded with 9.8 as a play on the '98 National Championship. This was before the poll had the descriptions added.

High expectations or possibly positive unknowns leave me equally excited. I've been a 10 every year I can remember except the last couple of Dooley years.
Even if "less likely" to win a game/division/conference, anytime we have an honest shot at beating the team we line up across from, I'm a 10.

Side note: Behr only peed a little because of age leading to more frequent trips :)
