Doug Matthews compared Chandler to Jamal Lewis

There's a mad echo on hear...

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine

Stolen from FF

From former coach Doug Matthews

"I had the pleasure of watching Charlie Garner and Chuck Webb (who were IMO the best two backs I've seen as a coach) and Ty Chandler is on the same level as those two. It doesn't matter what the official depth chart says, he will be a big part of our offense by the GT game."
Wow. Hope that proves to be true.

Not many people in the media that I trust more than Doug but he is a bit of a sunshine pumper. I'd pump the breaks a tad making those sort of comparisons

It's funny that you think he is a sunshine pumper. Every time I've ever listened to him he has talked about strengths AND weaknesses with the team. He calls it like he sees it.

So the guy from RTI was on 104.5 Nashville and said Austin Smith is looking good at LB and will play a lot. Also thinks Brandon Johnson will start on the outside.

He also said he thought Smith would overtake jumper by game 5-6. Will Boling is who it was from RTI. I didn't think Smith was a Mike though

I hear Ignont is doing well also. We may not be as thin at linebacker as the hand wringers would like to believe.

When Coach Majors chimes in favorably on the Webb/Chandler comparison, is it then a go?

No a bigger fan of Doug Mathews on this board than me. Listen to his show every Sunday and both of his shows on Saturday. He's a bit of a sunshine pumper if you ask me. At the same time there's no one in the media I trust more than Doug.

I feel the same way. He's been a sunshine pumper sometimes but also extremely critical of Butch other times. He's probably too sunshine pumper at times (like Ty = Jamal) but he's still really balanced and has great perspective.
