Pro tip:

Any of the hype you hear in fall camp you need to pretty much ignore. It is and always has been unreliable.

Quinton Hancock was Randy Moss every single fall. The guy probably had 10 career receptions.

That's exactly the point I'm making. Just because we're hearing about Sham and Labruzza and other freshman doesn't mean it will translate to the field. According to VQ, Buchanan is way down the depth chart after being so praised last year.

This. Read the practice reports. The comments from media are 99% positive every year, and then games begin and all these promising players we were excited about don't even play or a unit that "looks the part and coaches really believe in" underperforms.

He isn't going to play on defensive. If they don't move him to offense, then he has been wasted here at Tennessee outside kick returner. And they were reluctant to give him that job until the other slow kid got hurt got hurt.

Yes and fans said I should've been happy with Young getting that average of yards he was getting at the time. People think it's so personal but the athletes young or old need to play and in the right spots.

I'm showing examples proving different.... How's that confrontational? If Hurd could be successful Berry can. Berry shed tackles well even on returns. He doesn't need all this space to work like some think. He gets up to speed fast. Remember his pick 6 versus Northwestern. He got up to speed really quick then it was over.

Part of your response was "that's a lie". Also was mentioned that they tried Evan at rb and wr before the bowl game and he didn't like it. I realize nothing will sway your opinion

I did. The same one where he's a game changing S as well, correct?

If we're going off his high school tape, he looks like an All-SEC player at S in that video.

It's a little different ballgame in the SEC. You know that.

No he looks like an offensive guy with tools to be a good safety to me. OV told me when we got him we should put him on offense. Once I saw him with the ball and that mean stiff arm he has I was sold.

I just posted his HS highlights he's fun to watch with the football. Especially on screens and at RB. Kid is a big play waiting to happen and cuts with ease.

He can't be worse at screens than we have been the last couple years as a WR group. What's the harm in letting him try? When you have someone that fast it seems a waste to force feed JJ and Josh Smith on a bubble screen. No offense to them, but they should be blocking on screens, they don't have the acceleration of Berry.

How do you know that's not his skill set? Just because he has elite straight line speed doesn't mean he wouldn't be shifty too. Have we seen him attempt to be shifty and fail? It's just as likely we've only seen his straight like speed because that's what he's supposed to do on kick offs.

I was about to post this exact thing Jave. Just because someone on Volnation said it doesn't make it fact. We haven't used him that way so how do we know that isn't his skill set??

What else are we supposed to go off except what we've seen?

This isn't some Freshman we haven't seen much game action out of. We've seen him play for going on 4 years now.

Just to be clear, no one is hating on Evan. He's great at what he does. Figured we should throw that in there before someone gets all worked up

It is a lie about the great WRs/RBs not being great return men. Why I posted names to back it up.

We gave him one speed sweep on offense. I mean what are you judging? On returns he breaks arm tackles like a traditional RB. If Hurd could work in this offense I'm confident Berry would. His speed would lead to big plays in a hurry.

When have you seen Berry need to be shifty or cut quickly but fail at it?

Now you're moving the goal posts. The debate was people saying he doesn't have the skill set to be good on offense. He has no wiggle, he has only straight line speed, blah blah blah. I think those highlights BB posted prove he has more wiggle and make people miss ability than VN wants to give him credit for.

Im not doubting his speed would lead to big plays. I'm doubting the ability to get over the top of an SEC defense in order to use that speed.

He wouldn't be able to do what he did in his HS highlight tape at this level.

No one is moving the goalpost. I feel like I've been pretty clear in what I've said.

Again, every prospect we have looks elite in their HS tape. That's why Tennessee recruits them. They are on another level than everyone else on the field.

But you're just assuming he can't. Like Jave said, you haven't seen him try and fail.

The wiggle is there in those videos.

Point is we haven't given him enough chances to see what his true skill set could be on offense. He may not work out but based on the injuries at receiver and him looking like being passed up at safety I would rather utilize his talent with some tosses or reverses to keep the defense honest.

I guess you're talking about Devrin Young. That guy sucked the entire time he was here. He was a Derek Dooley special. Glad slow guys like him who should be playing in the Sun Belt aren't on this team anymore.

But you're just assuming he can't. Like Jave said, you haven't seen him try and fail.

I also haven't seen him try and succeed. So we are both guessing at this point.

You are hoping he has it, and just hasn't shown it. I'm assuming that since I haven't seen it in 3 years out of him, that it might not be elite enough to get big play after big play in this offense.

He can be used to set up the over the top guys. Shallow routes, screens, fake screens to him and being creative using him out of the backfield. He's a weapon use him to open up the offense. Teams will not want him in space at all. Be it running or catching short passes they'd have to account for a dude like him.

I'm 100% with you on tosses and reverses, which I've said several times this morning. I believe he could be dangerous doing those things.
