Charlottesville white nationalists riots

I believe the investigations should be allowed to play out. If he is completely exonerated of all wrong doing, I'll still believe he is unfit for office and hope there is some other avenue that leads to his removal.

I've stated since day one that he would last less than 18 months (about 335 days left) and would self implode and resign.

I have a friend, left of center by a lot, kept saying "Trump will never make it past the first debate". That changed to "Trump will never make it out of the first primaries". That changed to "Trump will never be the nominee" which changed to "Trump won't make it to election day" which of course became "Trump will never beat Hillary". Maybe you're right, (I like Pence better anyway/not a Trump fan) but would you put up your house and retirement accounts on it? If the Republican congress/Trump can get tax reform done (good chance), castrate and quarantine Kim Jong Un (already in progress), good trade deals get renegotiated and the economy keeps plugging along...Trump's numbers will go up and it's going to be a long four years for Luther.

They had a secessionist guy from SC and a black guy on pbs last night, I did not catch the group the black guy represented. They were friends and work together to keep idiocy at bay regarding racial protests and such. The anchor asked the black guy how important removing these monuments was, he said not very much. He referred to the removal of the confederate flag from the statehouse and how many minorities thought that would be some magical pill to fix everything. A couple years down the road the murder rate hasn't gone down, the education results haven't improved, racism didn't disappear. So his suggestion was to focus energy on increasing education funding, increase community involvement, and not focus on symbolic acts that have no tangible impact to the betterment of his community. I thought this was a fair point, but I'm sure that means he's a brainwashed Uncle Tom.

Looks like they want to eliminate history in order to write the future their way. Time to invest in sea shells as everybody will need at least 3 of them....

Born and raised in Tennessee, I love the South, and never plan on leaving it. But this article from 2 years ago is enlightening, and kind of applicable to your statement. Probably not how you'd like, but it is. Particularly, the part about Kentucky. Almost 3 times as many volunteers for the Union Army (~90k) vs. Confederate volunteers (~35k). Yet there are 72 Confederate statues in that Commonwealth and only 2 Union ones.

Who didn't see this coming? Morons.

http://buzz.blog.ajc.com/2017/08/14/atlantas-peace-monument-desecrated-by-protesters-champions-unity-not-the-confederacy/

at least this was a group that was not filled with hate...
The antifa crowd was a group of morons. The only positive was the BLM crowd stepping in and then all dispersing before some idiot threw the first punch.

Bannon has realized that agitating the extreme left will cause them to react in a way that pushes some moderates toward the Trump camp. Trump has made the calculated decision that defending the confederate symbolism will ultimately help his numbers. It's a sad and disappointing strategy. He is feeding civil unrest with the assumption that as the country becomes more divided, more than 35% will end up on his side.

Let's hope that there are enough statesmen on both sides of the divide to thwart Trump's desire to divide.

Even NYT reports that it wasn't just white supremacists in attendance

Trump’s Embrace of Racially Charged Past Puts Republicans in Crisis - NYT

”Good people can go to Charlottesville,” said Michelle Piercy, a night shift worker at a Wichita, Kan., retirement home, who drove all night with a conservative group that opposed the planned removal of a statue of the Confederate general Robert E. Lee.

After listening to Mr. Trump on Tuesday, she said it was as if he had channeled her and her friends — all gun-loving defenders of free speech, she said, who had no interest in standing with Nazis or white supremacists: ”It’s almost like he talked to one of our people.”

Conservatives like Ms. Piercy, who have grown only more emboldened after Charlottesville, believe that the political and media elite hold them and Mr. Trump to a harsh double standard that demands they answer for the sins of a radical, racist fringe. They largely accept Mr. Trump’s contention that these same forces are using Charlottesville as an excuse to undermine his presidency, and by extension, their vote.

Of course I wouldn't bet my house. Would you have bet the house before the first debate that Trump would become president? Of course not.

The vast majority of people thought Trump was a joke and had no chance, during every step of the process. When he won a couple of states and hung around in the primaries, many on the left found it hysterical. I, and most others, never conceived, did not even entertain the possibility, that we lived among a populace that could possibly elect Trump. We may have been wrong.

That's why collusion, Russian interference, a tainted or unfair election in any way, would be a more comforting explanation than the remaining conclusion.

I would stop short of portending to know what one thinks or believes. You don't know that. But as I have posted before, there is a historical context that needs to be accurately and factually presented that goes with these monuments, statues and memorials. That could just as easily be the way Trump sees it. What is wrong with that? Why would that be "offensive" unless one truly does not care about objectivity or facts. I support leaving them all up, IF it's part of our history. Let it tell all sides of the story. We will regret this as a nation down the road if this damaged thought mindset prevails by Antifa and the liberal left.

The economy is doing about the same as it was under Obama which according to Trump was embarrassing. Now it's the best and marvelous and great again. I feel like we have PT Barnum in the white house.

I am also a little sick of the we're a third world country in terms of infrastructure crap. That is an outright lie.

Bannon's quotes speak loudly.

I took a "we'll see" approach. Yes, I too was just dumbfounded he kept getting the traction he did. So what's the other conclusion? That people were sick of the deceit and lies of Hillary Clinton they couldn't stomach voting for her? Because that's the only other one.

Sometimes the best points are made in quiet and subtle fashion. This was an excellent post.

I am not 100% sure that I am thinking about the correct poster, but I believe that '72 doubled down every time when asked whether he believed Trump would win. Most others lost confidence at one point or another.

Excellent post. Is the ratio of statues in KY an accurate reflection of history or are they a reflection of something else? Something that people have every right to find offensive.

So Antifa are the victims - classic.

When it's on the left the nonsense is always a result of being pushed too far. They had no other choice than to a. riot, b. loot, c. destroy property, d. hit those people, e. all of the above.

Can we revisit the brainwashed and gullible commentary?
