Charlottesville white nationalists riots

There's a profound difference between the Confederate traitors to the Union who fought to leave it over slavery and the Founders of the Union. If you can't tell the difference that's your problem.

Really? So the founders who not only created a country and accepted institutionalized racism and slavery but participated in it were somehow different than the people who wanted to not give up slavery?

Yeah..sounds logical..

Yep. That's the problem with the "but they founded the country" argument.

They did found the country...with a "carve-out" for slavery. It doesn't take any sort of great insight to say that the Founders who were Southerners and slaveholders probably would have at least sympathized with the Confederacy.

More likely that they hadn't considered how the values they founded the country on were antithetical to and unable to coexist with slavery. Monarchy was just falling out of fashion when the country was founded and everyone was basically a slave to their king at the time.

It's unfortunate that oil and water nature of the county's basis of individual liberty and slavery had to be resolved with violent conflict, though.

This is what I've been thinking all along. You go after easier targets (because of the obvious Confederate association) first. It's easier to remove a Robert E. Lee plaque in NYC than it is to remove Jefferson's name from something. But once you do the first, it is much easier to do the other.

If they are consistent, they'll need to go after more contemporary figures, like Woodrow Wilson (who is a progressive icon despite being a virulent racist) next.
Incrementalism. That is what their M.O. on gun rights, free speech rights, normalizing sexual perverts, etc. They get the low hanging fruit, then move up to the next.

If we really want to do the Right thing we need to tear down everything. All whites and blacks and hispanics, and Asians should get completely out if government. Give it back to the American Indian. I mean who gets to choose the reset point? Why just go back to the war between the states?

They absolutely considered it and wrote/spoke openly about how the ideals espoused in the Constitution and slavery were contradictory. Jefferson flatly stated that the slavery question probably would eventually tear the country apart. They were acutely aware of it - how could they not be? The contradiction is so obvious. At the Constitutional Convention the Northern interests who were less sympathetic slavery basically caved in and allowed slavery to exist in the United States because they concluded they couldn't have a united nation without it.

The Founders believed in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...if you were a white man.

These Antifa and far left lunatics won't stop with just Confederate statues. The left wants to re write our history.

Correct. And it won't stop after they sanitize history to suit them. The playbook has been exposed for those paying attention. Subsequent goals of income redistribution, minimum mandatory incomes, enforcing and penalizing perceived social, racial and economic injustices will be further exacted by the IRS, activist judges, other bureaucracies and corporations that they are now stacking with their own (see Google).

There would be a lot more casinos.

It's not some nefarious plot. Good grief.

That is how change has occurred throughout the history of mankind. Change usually takes place incrementally. That's just the way it is and always has been.

The desire to assign some evil plot with the ultimate goal of removing all guns, eliminating free speech, and legalizing necrophilia is asinine. If you people actually believe what you profess to believe, no wonder Trump won. But again that would support the position of an ill informed and misinformed electorate explaining Trump's victory.

Who would have thought the media would have been so benevolent towards Trump?

If anyone is surprised or disappointed by the media's treatment of trump, they weren't paying very close attention. Never forget.......trump brought all of this on himself.

Dude you believe that Russia has dirt on Trump, that he actively colluded with them to win the election and that he is now a puppet of the Russian government. You believe it so much you are willing to bend the law to remove him from office for this unfounded belief of yours.

Talk about a nefarious plot!

I always here people say "well Trump could ignore this or that and do his job instead of fighting back or whatever"

the same is true of the press - they could cover affairs of State, illuminate policy debates, etc instead they are obsessed with the Trump personality and palace intrigue.

It's a dysfunctional co-dependent relationship and we are the victims.

I wonder why CNN isn't raising hell about the pyramids? They were built by slaves

What they'll eventually end up saying is that most of the history of the United States before about 1965 will need to be erased.

Progressive/liberal icon FDR threw Japanese-Americans in internment camps during WWII. His name/likeness needs to be removed from every public square, right?
