Charlottesville white nationalists riots

Read the thread. The Confederate flag discussion wasn't tied to Charlottesville.

Yes, to the extent the protest was intended to be nonviolent, it absolutely was legal. Or at least, it was, until police told them to disperse.

"Equally" is tricky. If someone walks up to a black person, calls him a dumb ni***r and gets punched, I wouldn't say they were "equally" wrong. Or if someone says your 12-year-old daughter has a nice ass and talks about raping her, and then you punch that guy, i disagree that you're equally wrong.

And is this reportedly what happened? How do we know one of the counter-protesters didn't yell something about them being dumb, redneck crackers? Would that not be equally as wrong as the one side calling the other a dumb ni***r? Or is it only wrong when discrimination occurs against someone non-white?

sticks and stones

Being an adult is hard. Getting your panties in a twist because some drunk poltroon calls you a name or waves a flag in your face lowers you into the gutter as well.

Sometimes, you just have to walk away.

What you should be ashamed of is your identity politics and inability to rationalize things on your own. Instead you carry around guilt for something you had no part in, something that ended a long time ago, something that was an accepted practice in the day.

Just think of all those people who could be walking around today contemplating either suicide or violence because their ancestors thought the sun circled the earth, that the earth was flat, or worshiped some weird object as a deity.

If you analyze the past with today's eyes you'll always get the wrong answer. The past happened, accept it, get over it.

This happened yesterday, you know. There is a resurgence in Neo-Nazis and fascists in this country. I'm not analyzing the past, but what occurred in 2017.

This notion of identity politics is disingenious. You would think every sane person would take issue with these thugs.

As long as they don't call me a drunk poltroon, I will walk away.

What resurgence?

There's a new terrorist group antifa which supppsedly counters these alleged fascists. But I have seen these fascists. Just the terrorists.

I don't take issue with them or any other group as long as they don't hurt people, and tear up stuff. Yesterday deserves punishment for several, and severe punishment for one.

"Accepted practice" implies that it was accepted by society at large. It was not; it was accepted mostly by white slaveowners. You're saying that one slaveowner's behavior wasn't as bad as we think, because it was accepted by other slaveowners. Of course it was. That doesn't mean anything, it's like saying we shouldn't judge Nazis because other Nazis thought the Holocaust was justified

"Accepted practice" would mean you were there to witness everything on a widespread basis? More likely the "accepted practice" is as portrayed in your party documents and in the movies and perhaps fictional accounts that fit your mindset. Historically the weak and disenfranchised are vulnerable to crime and violence - don't forget some Africans enslaved others and sold them.

If you equate the treatment of a slave used for labor with that of someone selected for ethnic cleansing, I can't help you in your bigoted view of history. If you elect to equate any number of slaveholders (including the likes of Washington of Jefferson) with the likes of a Mengele or an SS thug, I can't help you with that view either. One group of people were used as labor; the other were objects selected for elimination - the matter was how and when.

Rather than question other's "false equivalencies"; look at your own.

David Duke: "This event represented fulfilling the promises of President Trump.

"This (Charlottesville) represents a turning point for the people of this country. We are determined to take our country back, we're going to fulfill the promises of Donald Trump, and that's what we believed in, that's why we voted for Donald Trump, because he said he's going to take our country back and that's what we gotta do," Duke said.

White supremacists are fascists, terrorists, and traitors. They can be all three at once. Antifa grew from violence at alt-right protests. I don't support their tactics either.

Yes, at least until they round you up, load you in the train, and take you away.

What you're saying is that we don't know whether they were equally wrong. I agree. So why are you trying to get me to attest to something that neither of us know?

No, they are a George Soros/color revolutionary group no different than BLM or any of the other NGOs that were scattered across Eastern Europe and FSU states over the last 20 years. They are there to create instability and chaos in the host country.

Democrats realize that the neo-nazis support Trump and that Trump is willing to accept that support. Trump knows it. The neo-nazis know it.

The Republican establishment knows it, too. But it, like so many things about Trump, embarrasses them. So they minimize it. Parse words. Deflect back to criticizing Obama.

But they know he's pandering to a very sinister element within their party. And they have to put up with it.

Duke is a personal agenda driven asshat, just like the rest of the blathering twats using the media, including the media, to self promote and take advantage of the divisiveness in our country.

If one is set on lumping Duke/his ilk and Trump together based on specific words not uttered by Trump, then one must be willing to do the same with Obama and BLM/Antifa. When exactly did Obama specifically call them out by name as being bad? Didn't he invite the Brotherhood to the White House?

Trump has called out both sides as being in bad form. To hammer on him about not being specific in his call out is simply showing partisan bias and bringing your own divisive agenda to light.
