What time is Butch press conference today?

I was wrong about the team and having the bye...I even said I may be wrong. My point is that he's making a mountain out of a mole hill. Imo, coaches should teach players about overcoming adversity rather than *****ing about the schedule, that's all.

He's not complaining about a schedule. He's mentioning it as a challenge that the team must stay focused to come out on top. He'll challenge the team to overcome this obstacle that in their face and how they must overcome. That's coaching, it's a teaching point not a whinning fest. Did he SOUND whinny? Did he frown as if to cry as he was talking about it? You talk a comment about a condensed schedule and run with it. Top be a top program this is what you do. You take a hard schedule when it's possible. Like Bama has FSU but then has Fresno St and ColoSt. If it was Florida after GT then I'd say there's a problem. It's debatable, but he wasn't crying over the schedule.

I listened to it. He wasn't *****ing. He was just saying, we've got this tight stretch, we're working on how to get the players rested between those games, it adds to the challenge.

The one thing goofy about it was him saying he didn't know if it ever happened before, and if so, can't have happened "quite often." That was a little odd.

But as per usual, we're gonna pole vault over these bits of mouse dropping for weeks, baby! :)

Yeah, I looked it up. We played three games in 13 days most recently in 2005:
-- Monday, 26 Sep - beat #3 LSU at their place
-- Saturday, 1 Oct - beat Ole Miss at home
-- Saturday, 8 Oct - lost to #5 Georgia

And you're right, teams do this fairly often. Usually it takes the form of Sat - Sat - Thu, rather than Mon - Sat - Sat. But it's still 13 days. No idea why Butch thought this was a rarity in scheduling.

Why is everything taken out of context? It's never been done during his tenure. Just something extra to prepare for is all. I don't think he was saying it like nobody has EVER done it before.

Somebody said the last time we did it was in 2005. Wait that was you. That could be the "rarity" he is thinking.

After our game on Minday instead of Saturday, if we treat the week as business as usual, we will be doing our walk thru the day after the game rather than the day before.

No, Miramar, you missed the context if you think that.

He talked about going to the Canadian Football League to find teams who had done it, to get their ideas on preparing our players between games. He was clearly saying that it was a rarity in college football, not just for the Vols.

EDIT: here's a transcript of that bit of the conference:
We have to be able to start fast, have our health, and be game ready at Game 1. And having three games in 13 days, I don't know if that's ever been done. If it has, it hasn't been done quite often. So, we've tried to research everything, from the Canadian Football League, how do they handle time off during the course of the week, getting your players back, mentally, physically, you know, from what will be a very taxing thirteen days.

Some would find a fault with the '98 season. Well the Cuse game should've never been that close. If it wasn't for the personal foul call, we would have lost to UF. If Winke had played we would have lost yada yada yada.

That Syracuse team had Donovan Mcnabb as QB who was an absolute stud.

With regards to 3 games in 13 days, why are they looking into how CFL teams handle practice schedules? Do CFL teams routinely play games on short weeks?

That's fair. I just wouldn't discuss it publicly at all.
On the other hand, I shouldn't evaluate what he says based on the way I would handle it.

He just said he didn't know and talked about what they were doing to prep.
If anyone is making a mountain out of a molehill, maybe it's the people pretending he implied something he didn't.

Ha ha you are probably right

Having a short week is a big deal. Maybe he should tell the team since the short week is against Indiana St. they shouldn't bother to prepare for it. It will be a cake walk so why worry.

I did not say the team shouldn't prepare for the game. However, if our season comes down to worrying about Indiana St then we are in serious trouble

Thank you sir! You are now hired as my top research assistant

We did lose to memphis, so it could happen if 121 showed up drunk. Blue font, we ain't losing to or worried about Indiana St., not even a drunk 121 could lose to Indiana St.

Butch also said that Cortez McDowell has "changed his diet" and "transformed his body". He said he physically looks like a new guy now.

I told yall McDowell was out of shape last year. I remember yall acting like I was just making up the fact he didn't look as fit as the rest of our linebackers. He had a very noticeable gut. Good to hear he's taken his shape more seriously. Linebackers typically should be the most jacked physically fit players on the field.

I actually agree with you. I remember when he first came in he looked better and faster. Watching him early on on special teams, I was expecting big things from him.. Maybe this year!

Ha ha you are probably right

Ain't no probably. Him and that overall wearing some beech cat always are. Turn your back and theys both attack you and start messin which your mine. You been warned.

Thanks Butchna..

That's just plain outright stupid! Every team every season does that! Every team practices, plays game, practices and plays game.

He's just setting up another excuse!

He was setting his team up to be ready for a short week against Indiana St..

We haven't done it since 2005. It's not every team every year. It's not the 1st time ever either.

I like the emotion you put in your post. Makes you seem real level headed.
