Sometimes good leaders, great leaders don't need to verbally say things that are already understood. What would be the point of ridiculing the kids in the program? So a few reporters and some fans can get their jollies off and talk about how bad of a coach he is. When you set an expectation on your job or at home, and those expectations are not met, no need to verbally say that you are disappointed. The people that pay attention to you, will know that you are disappointed.
Expressing disappointment in goals not achieved isn't anywhere close to ridiculing. Many would consider it genuine and relatable, given the circumstances.
