I expect this team to overall more disciplined than previous teams. That will help our DB's,who have been horribly coached, technique wise.

QB will be a wait and see, though Dormady has had 3 spring practices and should be ready to roll.

OC Scott, pre game plan should be no problem at all, it's when things don't go as planned, can he adjust.

What's really gonna determine our season, imho, is the level of physicality and player development this new staff can get out of an overall experienced, talented roster. And if Dormady can step up and play at a high level from the pocket, I think we'll have a successful season....not a championship one, but a successful one.

Of the starting 22 on offense & defense (plus PR & KR) I think the only 2 not missing time was Josh Dobbs and Derrick Barrnett. Sometimes both starters and back ups were out. Just part of the game that falls under "luck"

Touche'. I remember years ago when Tim Priest and Bobby Scott did Footall Finals after every UT game. During the fiasco that was the 88 season, one guy called in and breathlessly detailed all that was wrong with the team, the coaches and especially "Majors!" After a good 3 minute rant, Priest cut him off in mid rant with, "Hey, don't slit your wrists buddy, it's gonna get better."

I didn't like how the regular season ended last year but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the Va Tech, Florida, UGA, or Nebraska games. I'll be back this year expecting success every game but won't "slit my wrists" over any losses either.

That's cool. But in the world we live in....In every profession...the good and the bad will be discussed. It's human nature. So we should apologize for criticising Dooleys failure? Keep in mind...8-4 isn't good enough at TN either in the manner that it happened. And I don't blame everything on injuries alone.

The slit wrist comment was over reaction by them imo.

The talent is there. The depth is there and if it isn't there in sufficient quality then there is one guy who stands responsible after 5 recruiting class opportunities to "fix it".

The question comes down to coaching. Development. S&C. Game coaching. Player rotation and health maintenance.

I see tremendous opportunity. The schedule is tough but lays out MUCH better than the last two years. None of the top 4 opponents will be faced in consecutive weeks. The toughest stretch of the season will be "Open, USCe, Bama, UK". Compare that to "UF, UGA, TAM, and Bama" in consecutive weeks last year or UF, Ark, UGA, open, and Bama in 15.

GT is a special problem because of their O but they're probably not as tough of an OOC opponent as VT at Bristol and definitely not as good as OU.

The OOC schedule generally looks to be on the weak side compared to recent years with GT, Indiana St, UMass, and USM.

Jones really MUST prove himself this year. As KB said, it doesn't have to be a championship but it needs to be better than 8-4 to prove the knocks on him aren't legitimate. That asks him only to beat every team he has a talent advantage over plus one of the 3 evenly matched games (LSU, UGA, UF). That's really not that high of a bar. He's already been given too many excuses... it is time that he pay them back by outperforming expectations.

PS- the expectations are largely what they are because much of the media is tired of getting burned by Jones coached Vol teams. They're in "show me" mode as they should be... and as we should be. Jones has not earned "trust" in his ability to get the most out of a team or season.

No, everyone isn't like me. Nor is everyone like CA_Vol, who asked where the confidence was coming from. I answered him. You seem to have an issue with me answering his question.

p.s. In the spirit of us all being different, you have fun "putting pressure on the administration to win." I'm gonna have fun in my way, by unabashedly supporting the team and having high hopes for great success each and every season. I suspect my fun is more fun than your fun, but everyone has their own preferences, eh?

With our talent and schedule 8-4 is the floor.

The way it happens can be the difference in CBJ proving himself worthy of continuing to be our HC or raise further questions and might confirm current questions.

That's my problem. I have so much fun at games, watching games, listening to games it gets plain silly.

I've had such good times in the past, it's like all the negative get set aside for the expectation of fun and enjoyment.

I understand that we could lose some games this year, it's so hard to win them all, but we will be given the chance to run the table.

I like our chances!

I chuckled at that sign at the time, too.

I mean, at very MOST, we're talking $120. More likely in the $80 to $90 range.

Not like you're gonna become part of the 1% that way. :)

Every fan base gets excited frequently about the coming year. There's nothing unique about us in that.

But I'm glad that person is excited over their $80 or $90 windfall. Heh.

Yep, it draws closer each day now. This season, in particular, will bring a lot of changes in chemistry with coaching changes and a new QB. I'm keeping an open mind. Really don't know what's to come in terms of success.

My gut tells me that one of the QBs will handle his position fairly well and the offense will not be bad at all.
But my gut also tells me that Defense could again be a concern. Those guys were torched so bad last year. How they perform this year will predicate the performance of this team in terms of wins/losses.

But I know everybody is ready to get the show on the road. Not long to wait now.

I really believe we will be better than expected..My BIGGEST concern is play calling on both sides of the ball..We need to be more aggressive defensely and we need to mix it up more on offense..We need to go deep more and stretch the field and I hope Dormandy can do that..But it starts with play calling...
