nobody knows. lot's of changes, new QB, DE, RB, WR's...i think a 25 ranking says there's talent, while also saying we have no idea what they'll do with it.

They will all be guessing. Too many questions with answers yet to come. Could just as well place UT in top 15 know. Who knows. Very little proof to argue over. BUT, argue we will!! Helps pass the time until FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!!!!

Anywhere from 20-25 in the Top 25 seems pretty reasonable to me considering the circumstances.

25. Tennessee Volunteers
This is a pivotal season for Butch Jones, who has danced from hot seat and high expectations through his time on Rocky Top. The Vols have a lot of talent to replace, and that starts at quarterback. Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano will continue to sort that out at fall camp.

From the SEC

1. Alabama-duh
10. Georgia-have to prove it
11. Auburn-again, prove it, seems high but most are high on them this year
14. LSU-they fell for hiring Ed O, top 25, not top 15
15. Florida-about right. Same Question as LSU, who is the QB?
25. Tennessee-about right but Tn does better when not picked high, will rise

Seem reasonable. Preseason polls are meaningless but it's nice to be included. Win the games and we'll move up.

Being ranked pre-season last year was fun. Then the season happened. :cray:

Still a lot of fun during the season though. I expect this year to be the same. Enjoy the enjoyable moments, and figure out a way to get through the rest.

Ended 2016 at 22, starting 2017 at 25; seems reasonable. Everything is speculation until September 4th.

I want fewer and fewer of those! :good!:

A person can reasonably argue UT in the 10-15 range and another person can reasonably argue that UT should be in the 30-40 range. So 25th sounds about right. Once you get past the top 8-9 teams, it's all a crapshoot anyways.

while i agree with your main point, i don't think there's really any way to justify a top 10-15 ranking preseason for us. unless you just believe that we're going to have every single right answer for all the questions we have.

and even then, that's just a personal thing, and not really based on anything tangible match up wise or personnel/coaching wise.

not picking on you here, just can't see anyone saying "TN should be 10th, and here's why...." and it not including a lot of "if's".

Me too.

When I met my husband's daughter for the first time, someone made a comment like "...next year will be our year...". She replied, "How long are fans gonna say that?" That was 2004.

Here's my rationale....if UT goes 9-3 and wins their bowl game (which I think is a realistic ceiling for this team), that typically leads to a final ranking in the 10-15 range. There were 6 Power 5 schools that went 10-3 last year and their average ranking was 10th (AP) and 11th (Coaches).

that's kind of my point...:)

if that's how it ends up, with those tangible results, in December, ok, sure. i'll buy that ranking as a finish point.

just in July, i can't see anyone saying TN is a top 10 team for any tangible reason.
