They don't have to play (usually) the 2 best teams in the West every year like we do. Do we get Miss State next year?

every yr some obscure no name team goes to sanford and either almost wins or does beat them. same thing happens in neyland it seems lol

Lazy analysis IMO. They've won the division two years running with a new coach so of course it should just continue.

It's not all lazy analysis. Phil Steele is high on UF this year - and he's anything but lazy.

I don't share his opinion of UF, just because I don't believe they have recruited at a high enough level on defense to replace the guys that left. But Steele's reasoning is based on the young players coming into the year with starting experience thanks to injuries.

You could literally replace UF with UT and have the same narrative with personnel. The difference is (at least to this point) UF's defense at no time played as poorly as UT's - except, ironically enough, against UT. And Bama.

I know I'm a little late to the discussion but I think we go 8-4 this year.

Probably finish 3rd in the East (even though we are probably a better team than UF)

they havent recruited DBs and DTs like Muschamp. Or even close to it.

their best DB returning is Duke Dawson? who got torched by us last yr to the point they couldnt even let him go on the field. Even when Tabor got nicked up. Tabor got it as well but i specifically remember Dawson looking horrible too. Also feels like Duke Dawson has been there like 7 years haha

Gardner is their best DB. Dawson is too small to cover Jauan and too slow to cover Byrd. They will have a problem if we can get them the ball. If they double with a safety we'll need Callaway or Josh Smith to catch the ball.

I haven't seen Steele's take but you're right on about him.

I still remember being pissed when he picked us third in the East in '05 haha.

Like I said, I'm not going to argue against it. My personal opinion is that it's Barnett, but it's really not a conversation with a right or wrong side.

Eric Berry was a different beast dude. Are you sure you actually saw him play?

Eric Berry in college was the best DB I ever saw. I had such high expectations for him in the NFL. In many ways his career in the pros has been disappointing in my eyes eventhough he's been a pro-bowler nearly every year.

In college he looked like a blend of Ed Reed and Sean Taylor. GOAT potential.

He's had an ACL tear and cancer hold him back and his peers still voted him the 13th best player in the NFL.

Disappointing? What?

Eric Berry and disappointment should never belong in the same sentence.

Though, considering the source, no one should be surprised.

I'm in no way slighting Eric Berry as a player. He's phenomenal and has overcome a lot.

I just had absurd expectations for him going to the NFL. Like I said, I thought he would be Ed Reed and Sean Taylor level as a pro. And although he's been great, he's NOT been that good.

He hasn't even been better than Earl Thomas who was from the same draft class.
