QB X-Fer effect on FL Game

I'm not knocking Butch Jones or elevating McElwain.

Both are downgrades based on where the coaching bar is set for both programs (Neyland, Fulmer, Spurrer and Meyer) and both have earned legitimate criticism.

I'd agree with this, with one caveat: "so far."

I'm not yet ready to conclude that I know the lifetime career destiny of Butch Jones, or Jim McElwain. It's certainly disappointing for their respective fan bases that neither have come on blue blazes.

But I just don't think we've seen the best either have to offer yet.

This is the litmus test year for Butch. A lot of folks will be coming to conclusions--permanent conclusions--if he doesn't find his way at least to Atlanta this fall.

I think McElwain still probably has another year or two longer before he gets permanently branded.

Neither of them will ever be Neyland or even Spurrier. But either of them could get to the Fulmer level, still. They just have to start gettin' at it pretty quick.

I missed where I wished for anything...and I post here regardless.

I just think the rest of the SEC fears Butch Jones about as much as you guys fear McElwain, possibly less.

Figure of speech, dude. Certainly nothing to get your a-- up over your shoulders about. Re: the last of your post, I just hope those SEC coaches you speak of continue to think that about Butch because, frankly, some of us think that there's a train acomin'.... and it's colored Big Orange.

Pretty sure I answered both of your questions.

Unless the shark's family presses charges, McElwain is our coach in 2018, win or lose against you guys this season.

I also mentioned Ron Zook, who was the last UF coach to lose consecutive games to UT.
:lolabove:That brought a chuckle!

I think our focus will be on the game and whoever is their QB will have our attention. Not really worried about any particular player, if we play well we will have a great chance. GBO!!!!

Brilliant post...it's not as though McElwain's last team was the overwhelming favorite to win the East, finally won the big game everyone hoped he'd win, only to crap the bed against South Carolina and Vandy.

Because that would really suck. :)
I'm not advocating for Butch. I'd say there both about the same but CBJ took over a much worse situation that Mac and still has a better offense. I'll give you defense but those were all Chump's recruits and speaking of recruiting..

It's been nowhere near what Chump or Urban did. Mac isn't exactly known for recruiting and this year I hope he does just enough to get by. You don't have all that depth on D now.

And you bringing up the loses to Vandy and SC only show how embarrassed you are that you lost to us you have to justify it somehow.

Here's to another 5 years of Mac and TEETH.

So we're basically saying the same thing. Our respective coaches have question marks.

And I wouldn't call losing to Tennessee embarrassing after a long win streak, yet still winning the East in spite of that loss. If that's what it takes to play for the SEC title every year, so be it.

Losing to Vanderbilt under any circumstance will never be acceptable.

God dude, just shut up. I really hate that people might confuse us because of our usernames. You're the worst.

You know it's bad when the UF fan is making you look dumb. You keep resorting to personal attacks and opinions and this dude is killing you by presenting facts only.

Just stop.

I guess your second paragraph makes a good point. It had been 11 years but i bet it still hurt :)

Yes, losing to vandy is awful. Ya'll got beat by them not long ago, wasn't shoop the DC then? Ga lost to Vandy this year and so did we. WOW, Georgia, Florida, and UT have all lost to Vandy in the last few years.

Sorry for making fun of your coaches teeth, i know you didn't care but :p

Good job, bud. Tucked your tail in between your legs and got friendly pretty quick, eh? Big time sign of weakness.

Like that avi, too bro. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

Fits you well, your not much of a leader but make a great follower. Classic IndianaVolunteer move, here.

Losing to you guys hurt until we beat LSU. Then losing to you guys didn't matter. Winning the East trumps all.

And yes we did lose to Vandy in 2013, and wound up firing our coach the following year...small but important distinction.

It's also worth noting teams that lose to Vandy in a given season typically don't win the division.
