UT gets their bowl rings

Most of the folks complaining about players getting rings for earning an invitation and win in a good bowl game are probably still wearing their letter jackets from high school.

I'm younger, I think as a player I'd still rather get something extra in my swag bag (an Xbox, Beats, Best Buy gift card, whatever) with the money the organizers instead spent on MCB rings. But it's their money, they can spend it how they like

We agree on that.

Every bowl gives out rings to the winner. Its not a new thing. The players will remember it forever don't downplay this as a participation trophy. They bust their a$$ all year so we can drink beer and watch on Saturday.

Good point.

we ? was it your money ?

Considering fans play a huge part in revenue, who's to say part of our money didn't go towards funding a bowl win celebration? I'm all for our players being rewarded, but you can't say that it's a little humbling to publicize a Music City Bowl championship ring as if it's some kind of major accomplishment.

We're Tennessee, only championships that matter are SEC and National championships. That is and should be the standard.

Or a bar poker league trophy!

Very true...which is why it wound up where it did.

Another true story....my step-son who had/ has no athletic ability at all got a 3rd place ribbon at a karate tournament when he was 10. Guess how participated in his age group? Yep, 3!

No, we didn't celebrate it past, "you gave it your best shot."

The difference being your step son came in last place whereas Tennessee won.

40k for rings for the players is pocket change compared to the 10 million paid in buyouts (6 mil to fulmer and 4 mil to Dooley) for .... nothing

So what you are saying is we have idiots drafting the contracts and idiots buying the participation rings?

Wasting money is stupid. Showing instances where more money was wasted doesnt change the fact.

at least the mens basketball team hasnt got any rings for quite some time now and havent had to buyout any of the last 3 coaches contracts either

The team got their MC bowl rings - looks pretty sweet!!!

Edit: I put this picture us because I thought it looked cool. Any true fan would be thrilled to own one.

It's too bad many Vol fans here can't enjoy what is a small reward for the players (who worked their tails off over the course of a long grueling year), for the success they were able to achieve.

First of all a ring for the kind of season we had just draws attention to the fact that we are now officially a middle of he road program.....and.....unless you're Elvis those rings are garish and gaudy and I would never wear one....

When I was at UT and worked in the AD rings were awarded for an SEC Championship and a National Championship.

For all sports.

You're really going to sit here and complain about a stupid Music City Bowl Ring that has no impact on you whatsoever? You might think it's stupid in your own right but maybe the players actually worked their a** off to win that game but most of the fans didn't care cause it was just a bowl game and not a National Championship game. Does it suck not playing in the National Championship game? Yes but regardless of what kind of game it was, our players still won and earned those rings. When they grow older, they can look back on this kind of stuff. They don't get to play college football forever so why not just enjoy what you earn? Instead our idiotic fans criticizes them cause it's something that doesn't fit our criteria when all we do is watch these players in front of a TV screen.

Great post and I totally agree! Some of these so called "fans" put so much importance on a gift that is a keepsake! To these petty "fans" please quit trying to find such trivial things to complain about! Good grief! :loco:

Skimmed through the thread after reading this post.
All complaints after this post just looked ridiculous. This once, a single post (yours) should have ended any debate. Just well done, sir.
