Most important position to recruit is defensive tackle.

1. There's fewer of them
2. Our state typically doesn't produce many of them
3. Because there are fewer DT the recruits that position are more highly coveted. You take as many SEC level DT as you can get every single year.
4. Arguably the most important position on the defense in this conference. interior defensive lineman is one of the things that separates this conference from the rest.

Doesn't matter what position you short, you get a chance to add four 4* DT to this roster, you don't hesitate. Its very unlikely it will happen though. But passing the opportunity to land a fourth one would be insanely dumb.

I think we proved this last year when we were forced to trot DE's out on the field and pretend they were DT's.

Not trying to brag or anything, but I just took five 4 & 5 star DT's on NCAA 2013, so it is possible.

Between this and our depleted LBing unit, it's amazing we won 9 games. Got to have strong lines if we expect to do anything in this conference.

Last year we were short on DT depth with injuries and dismissals. But we graduated nobody while adding 3 freshmen. With Alexis available, KMac healthy, and hopefully Tuttle a go, we will have 4 more than we had at the position last year. That's twice as many.

This year we'll only graduate one. And unless Tuttle comes back with a vengeance, I don't see us losing anybody early to the NFL. If we add 3, we'll have 10 at the position. I just don't see any possible way we take a 4th this class. IMO, it's more likely to take 2 than to take 4. We have other positions to fill.

So what's the deal here? This guy coming to Tennessee?

Penn st probably with TN and ND having a outside shot to pull him. Penn st been on him longer than anyone and apparently that is a factor. That is the way witfong or however you spell his name made it sound.

Take 4 every year that you can get 4 4-5 star DTs. Never ever turn one down.
If you have great DTs then the entire defense is exponentially better. Don't have DTs? Defense is exponentially worse. Just review last year. I rest my case.

lol, don't have linebackers defense is exponentially worse, see last year. don't have dbs, defense is exponentially worse, see last year. Don't have offensive linemen offense is exponentially worse, see last year.

we have more needs than just DT, and 3 tackles would be filling the DT need, especially when they are so good.

lets say we take 4 DTs this year, is your rotation all from one year? The numbers stack up and leave you with classes with no experience, and possibly no numbers.

Hard to get a read on what's being said. They are in his final 3 with Penn State and ND. His brother plays for ND. The 247 guy says he's about to CB him to Penn State but he has a good source saying Tennessee leads. Who knows.

Penn st will be tough to beat on a MD KID. Franklin got too many connects there. If he lived anywhere else TN would prob be outright leader

Yeah PSU is the safe bet for sure although those are Hoke's stomping grounds as well. He has some very strong ties in NJ, MD, etc..

If KMAC and Tuttle make it through the whole 2017 season with no serious injuries and perform well, they are both gone to the NFL. IMO.

If that happens, need to sign 4 highly regarded DTs this class.

Maybe take 4 as a one time thing if you plan to RS 1 or 2 of them or move to OL. Otherwise you have to spread the classes out more than that.

I could see this kid being a take especially if they think Emerson will be DE.

I think we should take 4 this year regardless because Tuttle and Kmac have proven to be injury prone.

If they do have problems staying on the field, then don't we still need the extra recruit?

Think their injuries (except for Tuttle's first injury) related to the poor S&C. That goes for most of the players.

I feel Rock will upgrade the program big time and Tuttle/KMAC will benefit big time. We will see a huge difference this year in their performance and less injuries.

I believe they will both play out the whole season.

If one or both return/we only take 3 DTs.

Both go to NFL, we take 4 DTs.

I don't think anyone will disagree that defense is #1 when it comes to competition for this league and beyond. And it starts with the DL.

You don't need 4 elite DTs in every class to do that. No one else has done that. And never will for that matter.

would you rather take 4 this year and at best 2 the year after, or 3 this year with a good shot at 3 the next year?

loading up just hurts us the next year, and is what leads to situations like 2016 where we get no freshman.

With state of Tennessee not deep at dline next year I say u take four if we get four we want it's tough pull elite dt from other states

uh, have you seen our roster of DTs? None of them are from Tennessee. Pretty sure Phillips is the only DL we have from TN.

For the argument that we can just redshirt them how did that work with Dooley's Oline?

and talking about moving them to guard, you know we are bringing in stud oline?

pretty sure we have the same number of DEs on scholarship as we do DT, and thats only because of an early enrollee and a late signee last year. we have more needs than DT.

Phillips, Kongbo, Taylor, D. Johnson, Mcdaniel
McKenzie, Tuttle, Vickers, A. Johnson, Picou
