Dobbs is already moving up the Depth Chart

I don't like big ben RAPElisburger but I give credit where it's due and he's a good QB for JD to learn from.

Steelers are a good organisation and their GM and HC are smart guys that don't panic and think things through pretty well.

Former LSU QB Mettenburger was GONE the very second the name of Josh Dobbs was called in the draft and everyone knew it.

Landry Jones is NOT a great QB but I think he'll get 2 more years with the Steelers unless 1 of 2 things happens...

1...A great QB falls into the Steelers hands, or...

2...Dobbs really comes on strong in just 1 year before the draft starts next year which is possible since JD will have all his time to dedicate to making himself a solid NFL QB and the Steelers still see even more upside for him.

Either way I see Dobbs getting at least 2 years minimum to greatly improve and we all know he has the brains and athletic abilities to do that.

Unless big Ben gets hurt badly I think his ego alone will demand that he try to play 3 or 4 more years if his body will let him so that's good news for Dobbs.

Dobbs is in a great spot and I believe if he gets 2, 3 or 4 years to reach his potential he just could turn out to be the Steelers next great QB as long as he stays healthy.

LMAO at a LSU QB getting pushed out by a great VFL like Josh Dobbs!

Go get them Dobbs!!!

VFL...GBO!!!

You do know Landry Jones is terrible right?

Josh will beat him out with relative ease.

No one in the league is terrible. This is where your immaturity makes you look stupid. He might not be one of the better QBs in the league, but right now, he's ahead of Dobbs. Dobbs has a lot of work to do to beat out Landry for back-up. That's pure fact. Sorry for the reality check

I would assume that Dobbs is already the 2nd stringer.

Landry Jones had his opportunities and he was drafted by Steelers in 4th round in 2013.

They wouldn't have drafted Dobbs if they were planning on keeping Landry 2nd.

Nope. He's got to earn it. They drafted because his upside could be huge, but they know right now he's somewhat of a project. He's got his work cut out to get that back-up role. Right now he's 3rd on their depth chart

The good news is that I'm sure Dobbs is smart enough to know he needs to work hard to be the backup.

I have been a Steelers fan since birth, own NFL Sunday ticket, watch every game each season, and I can tell you Dobbs has a great chance of beating out Landry Jones. Ignore the fact that they just signed LJ to a 2-yr deal. Pittsburgh was probably unsure of how the draft would go and needed a backup plan just in case. LJ is terrible. The only reason he has been able to be semi-successful and keep us at a .500 record with Ben out is because of the weapons around him. He short arms everything and has seen zero improvement.

To me, I see it as their safety net if Dobbs didn't work out. Tomlin is friends with Butch. He personally came down to the UT Pro Day if I am correct, and he had a longer than normal meeting with Dobbs from what I was reading. It seems like they were banking on Dobbs falling in place to them in the 4th round, or waiting till next year to find their QB.

Dobbs has a lot to work on, no doubt, and I do NOT want to compare him to Dak because that is such an anomaly it isn't even funny. But, one thing you can say is, like Dak, Dobbs has fallen into the perfect situation he could have. He gets to sit behind a future Hall of Fame QB for at least two years and learn from him every step of the way. He also has been put on a team with an insane amount of weapons and one of the best 3 offensive lines in the NFL. He will be able to stay in the pocket longer, and he will have top tier talent like Antonio Brown, LeVeon Bell, Martavis Bryant, Shuster, breakout star Eli Rogers, and DeAngelo Williams to work with. If Dobbs had been taken by any other team needing a QB (Browns, Jets, 49ers, Bears, etc.) he would have been almost doomed to fail.

Besides, Ben gets hurt for at least 1-2 games a year sometimes more. There is an extremely high probability Dobbs will be getting some real experience this year. Not to mention Ben plays a similar style game to Dobbs in the sense that he is great at making something out of a busted play. The perfect mentor. He fell to the best possible situation.

I really don't know how you guys could have watched this kid during his time here and CONTINUE to underestimate him. He's one of those guys that can transcend and has a gigantic cieling. He makes it happen. A born leader on and off the field.

No.

Why do you say that? I definitely think Dobbs gets some playing time this season.

If Roethlisberger gets injured and Landry Jones is who we thought he was. Landry Jones has been terrible the past few years as backup but I gotta believe they give him first nod.

Dobbs already has an advantage because he is the brand-spanking new draft pick that the fans will at least want to see, compared to Jones who has had multiple, less-than-spectacular, auditions already. Not saying Dobbs is an automatic success, but its not going to be a huge task to overtake a known mediocre QB.

The fans have absolutely nothing to do with who plays and when.

With all due respect you have no freaking idea what you're talking about. It's definitely going to be a huge task to overtake a :)birgits_giggle:) "known mediocre" QB. Dobbs hasn't garnered that level in the NFL yet. Not even close. He has the potential to do it, but that's it at this point.

Less than 2 months ago, the Steelers gave Jones a two year contract for $4.4 million. Landry will be there. He's not a franchise QB but with Bell, Brown and the rest of the offense, all he has to do is manage the game.

Dobbs will get a pretty significant amount of playing time in the preaseaon, probably more snaps than Jones.

It's not underestimation it's reality. With all due respect. much like D4H, you're delusional about him

Only $600,000 of that $4.4 million is guaranteed though. In the NFL that is chump change. Not saying Dobbs is automatically QB2 but as a huge fan that watches every game and has seen LJ play, he does not have a whole lot to beat out. JD is incredibly smart and learning the playbook and offense will not be an issue for him.

The contract LJ signed shows that even Pitt is not all that set on him, and his money is conditional to what other players do.

Have you and D4H been sharing a bed? Or has he hacked your account?

I am not underestimating him. In fact, the strides he made with his passing from his junior to senior seasons were huge. But there was the Vanderbilt game and he regressed that night. And he wasn't sharp vs SCar.

Besides, the Steelers said he has things to work on, so are you gonna call them up and give them that little tirade? Good luck with THAT!

Exactly! Some of these posters are delusional about Dobbs and how he stacks up against the best of the best, right now. Dobbs certainly has the potential, but he's never going to be the superstar that D4H claims

Its seems you have no idea how the process works if you think Dobbs is "Not even close" to pushing Jones for the backup job. Obviously Jones has more experience, because Dobbs hasn't played a snap, and that is exactly why he will get a chance. We know that Jones is a bad NFL QB, why would the Steelers draft someone who they don't think can at least initially surpass what Jones has done? The Steelers didn't draft Dobbs to sit behind Jones.

Josh bought Ben a motorcycle as a kind gesture.

I don't even think it was his birthday or anything.

I can't figure out why in the heck he would do that.

:dunno:

I know exactly how the process works. I didn't say the Steelers drafted Dobbs to sit behind Jones. I said he's got work to do to beat JOnes out for the back-up role. That's 100% fact. "We know that Jones is a bad NFL QB". He's not a very good NFL QB, but he's not a bad one either. As I correctly stated in another post, no one is terrible in the league.

For real you guys realize he's not in college anymore right? He doesn't have a course curriculum weighing him down. No distractions. 110% football.

Mettenberger is a big, strong guy out of LSU who was supposed to have potential. I guess not....Another example of how tough it is to make it as a QB in the league.

Big Ben is going down once a year at this point. Dobbs will play this year and it will take him a couple of games to get going but BR may not get the job back after that. Dobbs will be taking them into the playoffs within two years. Take that to your bookies. #thebrownssuckagain

Bro... your browns had a very smart draft....

For 2017, it almost certainly will be:
1. Ben R.
2. L. Jones
3. J. Dobbs

2018 will be the make or break year for Dobbs. If he doesn't push past Jones before the start of that season, his NFL days likely will be numbered.
