Shoop: Taylor, Kongbo 'have had really good springs'

Kongbo gets pushed around by freshmen

He's physically imposing and talented, but he wrote checks last year with his mouth that his arse couldn't cash.

Hopefully he's matured and gotten much better. One thing is for sure....if he lets an OT get his hands inside to his chest, especially one as physically gifted as Trey Smith, he's done. Question is, does he have the maturity and focus to work on his technique, especially with his hands, like Barnett. Hopefully he does and realizes his potential. I'm in wait and see mode with him. Got more faith in Darrell Taylor at this point.

Unfortunate that you guys didn't see what Smith would have done to Barnett in the same setting.

You watch the last 3 years? Barnett was technically sound and smart, and wouldn't have let a freshman (or anybody else evidently) get into his chest and control him like Kongbo did.

Circle of life is pointless, outdated, and proves nothing about what a player can or will accomplish. Trying to base what a plyer will become on one drill is ridiculous.

agree with your overall point about it projecting anything.

but disagree on it being pointless. it's another means of establishing competition. and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yawn.......heard it all before. Prove it on Saturdays in the Fall.

same here. it's not like they're going to come out and say "boy, we suck".

take it with the grain of salt. the only good news is in regards to injury status. past that.......see you in September.

It is not designed to "prove" anything. It's a drill designed to promote physical and mental toughness, and to cultivate the competitiveness one needs to one the 1v1 battles that are a stable of football. There is nothing at all outdated about it.

Taylor, Kongbo and Kyle have so much more talent than Barnett and Vereen. Our D line should be dominant this year if Tuttle and KMAC are healthy, one of the best if not the best in the conference.

It used to be called the the bull ring and it's intent is to instill toughness.

I'm big on Taylor, Kongbo and Vickers.

I'm encouraged about how Picou looks.

I'm a little discouraged about A. Johnson being out of shape (rumor).

I'm worried about the health of Tuttle, KMack, and Phillips. Too many injuries already.

I'm looking on milk cartons for information on Austin Smith.

EDIT: I guess Austin Smith went on the Calista Flockhart diet and lost 30 pounds. Now he is back to LB.

Taylor reminds me of Brian Orakpo in terms of build and athleticism. While Kongbo has the potential to be a player like Jason Pierre-Paul in terms of measurables and athleticism.

If both these guys reach their potential we could actually IMPROVE at defensive end even with the loss of our all-time sack leader Derek Barnett.

Aaaaaaand this is where I block you. Ridiculous statement....

Yes. Barnett got mauled in the run game many times. Its a drill made for Smith, Kongbo has made Smith look ridiculous when playing in space.
