I agree. It is baffling. We seem to recruit really well. There really is no excuse.

I used to think, well we are not really a baseball school, so who cares. But when you step back we aren't really any good at anything and haven't been for a while. Meanwhile other SEC schools with far less resources are competitive and winning titles in numerous sports. This funk we are in really has to change. Hope Currie gets it done.

I am not aware of all of the facilities in baseball, but I would guess that we are behind in that sport. We are at least 9th in the SEC in resources and probably facilities in baseball. That's at best. Maybe worse. The school needs to decide if it really wants to make a commitment. The fact that we are probably last in offering an online stream of games is very telling of our commitment.

South Carolina AD getting results.

I don't believe he hired Martin or Stailey, and they promoted the associate baseball coach once he became AD (because he was the baseball coach). He hired Muschamp. You have to give him some credit for the success, but these things are about timing.

Bituli is a big LB

3 NFL players.

Can't wait to see them play this year.

All 3 are bonafide studs.

Only way that happens is if Shoop goes back to his old ways of playing 3 LBs on pretty much all early downs (regardless of offensive personnel) like he did at PSU and Vandy in the past.

I imagine when you hire a former baseball coach you are getting someone who wants to win. Not hiring a bean counter or a facility upgrader.

Empty suits and bean counters love hiring other empty suits and bean counters. It's the culture at Tennessee.

Well, the admin is even more dysfunctional than that, because we also have toxic booster egos complicating easy stuff even more.

Aren't we gonna be running more 4-3?

I have Austin Smith, Daniel Bituli, and Darrin Kirkland Jr. starting at LB.

I think Darrell Taylor and Jonathan Kongbo start at DE.
Who knows if we'll run more 4-3 or not. Prior to his time at UT, Shoop regularly used 3 LBs on early downs even against spread teams who ran mostly 11 personnel.

For whatever reason, he didn't do that in 2016. Most practice reports had seemed to suggest that they're still using a majority of nickel personnel rather than a base 4-3.

If completely recovered, I wouldn't count out Quarte Sapp as starter at one of those LB spots.

I'm with you on Taylor and Kongbo though.

If he can contribute to rationally at DT this year, it would be big for depth there. Especially if Tuttle is back.

That would be huge if he can give meaningful minutes this fall. He is going to get tons of reps this spring with Kmac and Tuttle out. Time to see what he can do.
