'18 GA QB Justin Fields

Tennessee was a 5-6 team the two yrs before Dobbs got here and his freshman yr. so he took them from 5-6 to 9-4 to be fair.

Wish Orange Venom would give us some insight from Georgia on if he thinks Fields could seriously flip.
:good!:

That wasnt ONLY because of Dobbs. Also, if Dobbs played under Dooley, we may have never had a winning season.

so do many other qbs. You just seem to focus on josh because he's not perfect.

This has been my issue with yall from the beginning. Your holding dobbs to a standard no other qb is held to. Did he miss some throws? Yes. But so have many other qbs and people don't throw it out there everytime they miss.some qbs are just held to different standards.

😂

No disrespect but you really don't think he helped change the program ? It wasn't said he changed Tennessee into a NC contender, but he made more out of nothing than anyone I can remember. The university and his coach did him no favors on the field. No true qb coach, below average line and receiver play.

I mean, yeah he changed the program from 7-6 to 9-4. Is that a real major accomplishment? Is that what you think of when you hear the term "program changer"? A two win difference? The guy was something like 23-12 as a starter, and some want to practically rename the stadium after him. Like I said earlier, maybe the term, program changer, is subjective, but his attributes in the win column don't stand out to me as someone who will go down in Tennessee football lore. He can be a good QB and not be a program changing QB. I'm not saying he's bad or that I don't appreciate him. I think we'll miss him this year.

Dobbs biggest issue (accuracy) isn't all his fault. Like it's been stated before, our OL blew the last 3 years. Dobbs masked that issue more than some want to believe (not directed at you). Top that off with the fact Butch didn't hire a QB coach, and Dobbs was doomed for 9-4 seasons. Butch simply blew it with loads of offensive talent because he's not a great X and O coach, and he refused to get out of his comfort zone in terms of hires and schemes.

Personally, I love Dobbs, and I think he's an incredible person. However, he's an average passer at best, and he needs a lot of work if he wants to play in the NFL. As you said, he will be missed next year, but there are better QBs out there.

Agree. Unfortunately, there is a vocal minority of posters who believe that if you don't think Dobbs is Randall Cunningham part deux, then you obviously think he just sucks. There is a middle ground where you can appreciate his accomplishments, acknowledge the obstacles he had to overcome, and still think he left a little to be desired as a passer. I hope he kills it in the NFL.

This guy either didn't see the reminder or didn't care...

IMO Dobbs issue was always consistency. If he were more consistent he would've at least made it to the Heisman ceremony once and UT would have won the east at least twice during his career.

Dobbs issue was Butch Jones. Same for Kamara.

It's funny that the moment Dobbs left Butch Jones and got some pro coaching at the senior bowl he immediately improved.

I'm a huge Dobbs fan. I've absolutely enjoyed watching him play for UT, especially making plays with his legs. But it is obvious that consistency has been a limiting issue for him. Yes, part of it was Jones, a big part of it was Oline blocking scheme, and an even bigger part may have been lack of QB coach, but part of it was his own inconsistency. Compare his performance vs. Florida to his performance vs. a much less talented South Carolina team. He's always been a Heisman candidate one game, but struggled the next, even under Bajakian.

This is not intended to be knock on him at all BTW, just offering an explanation as to why he wasn't even more successful than he was.

I thought Donovan McNabb's career in the NFL was similar; beat the brakes off the best team in the league one week, lose badly to the worst team in the league the next. TBH, I always wondered if it had more to do with him or Andy Reid.

Yes, he's shown major improvement in all the real game action he's seen thus fa.... wait... He's not played in any non-exhibition games yet.

I love me some Dobbs but let's not pretend that there are a whole bunch of folks out there who can teach throwing accuracy to a 22 year old man.

Ainge > Dobbs imo. Not even close.

No. I really like Ainge and Claussen both and they led us to more wins than Dobbs. They were both superior passes and, of course, Dobbs can run much better. Let's see who has the longest pro career. I think all three of these players had fantastic careers at Tennessee.
