A tale of trust, loyalty and costly mistake

Every candidate had an element of unproven. Currie the least so.

Don't know about that Butch. Plus, Currie comes to us with a ton of baggage. When your first order of business is an apology tour and trying to mend the fences you broke the last time you were on campus, you got proven elements that you don't want.

Look, we're going round and round here my good VN friend. You think Currie was the best candidate, a homerun hire, I think exactly the opposite. Got no choice but to go along with it, hope he's grown up and matured as a leader. We'll see.

Does our President have athletics back?

Based on the hire of Currie I'd have to say no, she doesn't.

Every time I see one of your posts I find myself giving you a like for your avi. You have to be the most avi "lived" poster on the forum and will never know if folks are agreeing with your point or liking the avi - has to be confusing?

I haven't heard one apology from him. Maybe he chalks everything up to a learning experience and there really aren't villains and heroes in this particular example? Glad you took it a friendly disagreement...you're one of the few that I'd tone it down for but to your credit you've never asked. This hire will continue to generate TMZ like accounts both ways and as long as the detractors comment, there will be a rebuttal. :hi:

I've heard Hubbs and others, on more than one occasion, say Currie's first order of business in Knoxville is mending fences with key boosters and supporters after how he comported himself as Associate AD under Hamilton last time he was in Knoxville. Starting off behind the 8-ball. That's what I was referencing.

As far as the other part of your post, it's all good. Civil debate and respect brother.

The guy is obviously a good coach, but I've never liked his attitude or demeanor.

Regardless, I wish we would quit talking about a lot of the same stuff. These stories come from both sides and it's all hearsay. We may never know the truth. But the reality is that Currie is our AD and there is nothing we can do about it. It's like we keep ripping the band aid off. I'm going to give Currie a fresh slate and let him do his job at Tennessee before I make a judgment on him.

Sounds like Hubbs and others comported up some made up nonsense, like sports yentas tend to do. :)

IIRC, Volnation was clamoring for an AD that would kick butt and fahr all the coaches. Now we're wringing our hands because we have an AD that coaches don't love.

Volnation: mood swings "R" us.

I think posters have gotten in such a habit of b1tching that we don't know how to do anything else.

(No, I have no idea whether Currie will be any good or not.)

I don't b1tch about much concerning the coaches or UT but I haven't been a fan of this hire.
I agree with Butchna that it's done so deal with it. I disagree with him about questioning Hubbs information. If I'm going to trust Hubbs for info on recruits with no proof, then I'm not going to question him just because he disagrees with my opinion.

But I'm most concerned with the rumors of Currie interfering with recruiting practices. Not really worried about the South Carolina bb coach. Just how he lets our coaches do their job.
Unfortunately, we will be unaware of either the interference (or lack of) for some time to come imo.

I take Hubbs' recruiting info with a grain of salt also...been wrong a lot.

Ok, that's fair.

For me though, nothing will answer having hired someone with such questionable baggage, other than time.

I start out any hire at UT with an attitude of " I'll trust them until they give me a reason not to". Rarely do I feel the trust isn't there, and they're going to have to prove to me otherwise. (Not that he's losing sleep over my opinion).
The only other time I felt really uncomfortable was with Dooley. I truly am hoping he proves me wrong though. Maybe he did mature.

We'd have heard stories about anybody we hired. TMZ's world...we're renting space.

Oh, we agree on that.
My personal list of who I wanted or didn't, came before the actual hire. I had Currie on my 'don't' when his name was first mentioned months ago.

After the hire mudslinging, wasn't a factor for me either way.

Currie was hired because he was good at bringing in money and he "was a UT guy", but the money being the main driving factor. Blackburn has made his teams better, Currie has P5 experience but he either maintained or made worse what was handed him. This hire was the school people wanting to use the massive football fanbase to rake in cash to eventually carry all the sports without caring that the fanbase won't be opening its wallet if the product doesn't get better.

I don't blame Currie for what Frank Martin did. But, the jury is definitely out on both him and Davenport. I don't believe Davenport is serious about winning championships JMO. I sure hope I am wrong but time will tell. In the meantime we will continue to be embarrassed by finishing at the bottom of the heap in most sports until things happen for the better.

A university presidents number one priority is not winning championships. That is Currie's job. If she has any high priorities, it is removing the title IX crap out of the rear view mirror, and a lot of things that has diddily poo to do with athletics. It doesn't take time to figure that much out.
