You're right, there is no point continuing. I have had friends with down syndrome children and they are not offended by lighthearted use of the word retarded. They understand context. Most are less affected by it's use than the feel good crowd. Empathy has nothing to do with it.

lol. I live with a wife and three daughters. I carry around buckets of empathy and I still step on people's toes. I don't have the ability to not offend everyone. I've apologized but I guess that post got lost in the shuffle or they refuse to acknowledge that fact. Oh well. :hi:

When does Cam get drafted? In hoping 2nd round. He is one of the best DBs in this draft imo. More versatile than the others. Wouldn't you take him above 4.9 Tabor?

Croom: 4.63
Foreman 4.37
Meachem 4.58
JRM 4.65

That 40 times will help all of them. Even Meachem lol. Foreman would be a late round possibility with that 40 time and how he improved in his coverage skills. JRM is gonna go probably 4-6 I would think. Maybe sooner but I'm thinking 4th round.

Agree on JRM. Feel like he would've gone 2 or 3 if not for shoulder issues. He is gonna be a steal for someone if he can stay healthy

If Croom can work on his hands then he's an NFL player IMO. 4.6 at his size is a mismatch even at the NFL level, and the league loves pass-catching TEs right now.

I don't necessarily think he'll be drafted (though it wouldn't surprise me), but I do think he has a place in the league.

Glitch you're one of my favorite posters on here and I usually agree with you on most things you say. But you are off on this one. I know you weren't making fun of people with mental handicaps, but it's still used as a derogatory, comparing people to those with mental handicaps.

I'm not personally offended by it. But we are all different and it is hurtful to some people.

I don't think it would diminish your life any to not use the term.

With that said I'm bowing out of this topic

I apologized and caveated my statement but I guess people didn't see it or are choosing not to acknowledge that fact. It is virtually impossible to not offend someone with nearly anything a person says nowadays. So many terms have been twisted to mean derogatory things when they truly are only a description of a condition. Being retarded is one of those. It is simply describing that something or someone is slowed for one reason or another. It was originally used to describe people with mental handicaps because their mental development is slowed. They are mentally retarded. People have twisted it to be viewed as a negative but it is still simply a description of a person with slowed mental development or understanding. ***** is another of those terms. It's original use was to describe something as being strange or odd. If you didn't feel well, you might say you felt *****. However, it has been twisted to be a derogatory term for homosexual people. If I didn't feel well and told someone I felt ***** I would get all kinds of grief even if I was using the word in its original context and not to degrade homosexual people. If folks can't understand that I was using the word retarded to indicate that some posters seem to be slowed in their mental capacity to understand that the topic they were discussing had been exhausted of original comments then so be it. I did not intend to start this crap storm and I certainly never even thought about people with mental handicaps when I made my statement. Folks need to thicken their skins and maybe think about the original use of words and the context in which they are being used currently before they try to cover folks in hot tar and feathers and run them out of town on a rail.

EDIT: See! I can't even type the word Q U E E R in a post without it getting censored, even though I was not using it in any sort of negative way! This is one of the major problems with our society and I am not upset with Freak or the Mods either. It is just to world we live in that words have been twisted and if someone uses them to mean what they originally meant then they are a bigot and insensitive. Well I'm not and I'll continue using words to mean what they are meant to mean.

Agree. I really hope he has a productive NFL career. He has been one of my favorite Vols is recent history.

No worries. Laager. It is a wider societal issue. If people are offended I cannot stop them. However, I also will not be a different person for them. I don't use words to purposefully hurt people. I have three girls that I try to teach to be respectful but to also speak their mind when they see something that bothers them. Many people in today's society are appalled when someone speaks their mind or uses a word that they don't like. It is a very strange time to live in and I sometimes think I would fit in better in a different time but then I remember that I don't know where Doc Brown hid the schematics for the flex capacitor and the time circuits so I am resigned to remain here in good ole 2017.

I get the point you're going for here and I'm of the mind that nothing is sacred and everything is fair game to joke about.

But the way we use words is constantly changing. It always has been and always will be. New words are made up all the time and the way we use most words will change over the course of one's lifetime.

It's not so much a case of people "twisting words original meanings" as it is society changing over time and language reflecting those changes.

How about you let him post his measurables today first, before saying they are not good enough.

His measurables will be good. I've seen him play football.

Rooting for him but he's not getting drafted IMO. I could definitely see him getting a shot as an UFA based on his size and numbers.
