8-4 doesn't get him fired

I think there's a good chance it does.

He has to be extended or fired. We can not afford to just retain him. That's not how this business works. It will never be cheaper to fire him than it will be this winter.

If he goes 8-4, I think people are gonna be ready to move on to the next guy. 5 years with no SEC East title is long enough.

7-5 yes. 8-4 in my opinion gets him extended.

Nailed it.

Except long term, it might result in substantially less clicks over time and less content so clicks leaving due to content as well. Seems like a very dumb, short sighted decision. I guess it all depends how many subscriptions were cancelled. Only they know that.

Me personally will never subscribe to 247 because 1. Rucker is trash and 2. Haney debacle.

Back to the who is the second best coach... From my point of view.... Gus (his system) is who other teams try to emulat... Mullens helped make the spread game what it is from a power standpoint and a more pro-style standpoint.... Get the book (smart football) it will help further explain this... I think as far as making a system goes... I would give the edge to Gus....

If UT fires Butch, they better have a home run confirmed first.

There is almost no effin way he gets fired at 8-4. It would have to be some crazy circumstances during the season to play out that way. You guys trying to force a higher bar, are not going to get your way.

Tony Franklin is a guru of gurus too..but nobody wants him for a head coach. There is a lot more to being a great HC than Xs and Os.

I couldn't agree more.. (However if you can do that the other stuff doesn't matter) But I was giving that side of it... Depends on what you want in a head coach then.... Where do you want the strengths and where can you live with the weaknesses... I honestly believe you have to put butch in that top 5 category in the SEC... I think mcelwain has to be in that conversation as bad as I hate to say it...

ALOT of being a good coach has to do with "fit" as well....

I really don't think this administration cares about winning but here's how I see it.

6-6 = Fired
7-5 = Possibly fired (my prediction)
8-4 = Safe for now
9-3 = Extension

Jmo

You guys are focusing too much on this seasons expectations. 8-4 this season would be fine if he hadn't squandered the east the past two seasons.

He hasn't built up any equity to remain safe. 8-4 and no east I think there's a very good chance we fire him.

But Butch needs to show something that makes him worth retaining. I don't care if his roster says 7-5 he needs to go 9-3 in my book or at the worst 8-4 with the future looking bright.

I think there's a good chance he gets fired at 8-4. He's going to either have to earn an extension this season or he's getting the ax. One or the other.
I think it depends on what that 8-4 would look like. If all of the 4 were close losses to good teams I think he keeps his job. Lose to candy or someone similar I think they would fire him.

I gotta go with Mullen at 2, but IF Butch were to pull a big season out if his arse this year, I would actually put him second. MacHorsetooth has been a beneficiary of some very good defensive talent not recruited by him.

Recruiting is a big part of it too imo. If he's 7-5 and recruiting is bad you kinda have to think about letting him go

No way..almost. It would take some weird circumstances imo.

Your argument is always that it comes down to $$ with our admin, so unless that 8-4 included a catastrophic loss I don't think they would pay the buyout

It's never gonna be any cheaper to fire him.

He did not get extended last year. In this climate you are either getting extended or getting fired.
