that rules has been around forever. it is the rule that is being used to get Jumper a 6th year. if you miss 2 or more seasons due to injury you can appeal to NCAA for a 6th year

Jumper's not getting a 6th year. Just a 5th one.

Is there a medical waiver available if a player suffers a season-ending injury in more than 1 season? I can't remember, but it seems like they added something like this before one of the past seasons.

There's still a 5-year clock that doesn't stop. If the injury is extremely bad and requires more than a year to rehab then a 6th year could be granted.

It's one injury that takes more than a year to rehab that could gain a 6th year. Two separate injuries in two separate years won't result in a 6th year.

Also, as I'm understanding it, if a player had already taken the normal redshirt (a year without playing a single second) then they can't get a medical hardship waiver. The 5 year clock is only extended if the rehab for one injury (or illness) takes longer than a year.

No. A single play burns a redshirt.

He may qualify for a hardship waiver due to season ending injury though, which some refer to as a medical redshirt

Yeah I think Dooley burned Worley's with 2 minutes to go in a meaningless game and all he did was hand the ball off.

Worked out better for Dobbs though.

Jumper returning for an extra year helps our depth. My concern is that he takes one of the 85 roster spots. I'm sure we will have talent needing that roster spot.

My concern is him taking practice reps from more talented youngsters once 2017 ends.

I'm thankful for the hard work this kid has put in for us and everything. But once spring 2018 rolls around I don't want him taking up the time coaches could/should be spending on Bituli/Ignont.

good for him, i was reading up on him and saw he suffered from some rare blood disorder and actually has not had an easy road. he came through for us in some tough spots and though he may not have been our first choice he is a vfl.....

Following this and other threads about our team is like reading a hospital report. I don't follow and read other school sites, but do they have this much problem with health? It seem that we bring in guys that have health issues when they get here. We are always butting our heads against the 85 limit. Do other school run into this problem like we do?

Say what you want about the kid, but he made huge strides from 2015 to 2016.

And you can tell he puts everything he has into the game. His heart and soul are on the field.

This is great, but really hoping he doesn't have to see extended playing time this year like he did last year.

The defensive issues weren't all on one guy. That's a dumb thing to say. We had many issues on defense last year that all together made them who they were.

He didn't say they were on one guy. If we don't have better than that to put on the field, we're in the same sinking ship as last year (defensively).

When Jumper first got here it was obvious he was a little behind athletically. That being said he has made major improvements. Still wouldnt want him starting, but he is really good for depth. He balled out against UF.

Yep we prob don't win UF game without the tackle for loss on 3rd down he made. Played it beautifully.... down the line then saw the play developing then filled the gap...good for you CJ.,,
