They are struggling to find anyone of significance to say good things about this guy.

UTsports.com has the rowing coach and the volleyball coach.

This is a terrible hire but it is so UT. This Bev lady hired someone to come in and worry about money and compliance. I am so sick of UT athletics. Winning is never the priority. The priority is bleeding the fanbase and building facilities we don't need.

Rivals beat guy for KSU on John Currie....

Fans are excited he is gone.

Fundraising, penny pinching, facility upgrading is his expertise.

Bill Snyder likes afternoon kickoffs. Currie wanted primetime games for revenue and marketing reasons.

Frank Martin got sick of Currie meddling in his program.

Bruce Webber (hired by Currie) went to the President to complain about Currie meddling in his program.

John Currie is also known for going to the recruiting office and trying to get preffered walk on spots given out as favors to people he knows.

The best thing that Currie has done is raise money and build buildings.

Goes above and beyond in compliance. Almost makes his own rules to be sure that you are not anywhere near the gray area. Everything is white and black with John Currie.
Snyder also wanted him to bring in equestrian for family reasons and Currie chose women's soccer. Poor Bill. Martin is an an ass and was trying to cheat. But carry on.

It would be our luck that the year Butch gets his act together and hires a great staff is the year that he gets a micromanaging AD who pushes him out the door.

That is actually a concern now, no joke. I was trying to be optimistic, but hearing that the coaches, even the ones that he hired, are happy that he is gone, mkes me nervous

Coaches need to be able to swim in the murky water if you want to be good at hoops.

I have always appreciated the posters that aren't afraid to state their mind on a recruit that is just a little lacking in skills when they are being considered. However I have always felt once a recruit commits they are ours and we should stop the negative and support them.

Well I think it's high time we do that with Currie. Hell we have the ignorance of talking about a buyout already here.

Supper the guy as his success is our success. All the rest of just causing harm to what we all supposedly love.

Let's at least let him have some failures before we start bashing him.

I want him to be great and I was optimistic until this morning. These quotes from K state about their coaches, even the guys that's Currie hired, has me nervous. I don't want this guy meddling in football or recruiting. Let Butch and staff do their jobs. If they do bad, fire him and his Ken Whittingham. Other than that, stay out of the way

Very hard to do that when it is obvious that nothing has changed over there. We prioritize money and control over winning. This isn't the hire to fix things. This guy will be ran out of town in 3 years.

IMO $ and facilities is the number 1 job for an AD.

Winning is on the coaches. If they have $ and facilities to do that the AD is going thier job.

Nope. We don't have a problem in the money and facilities department. I could get the job and do fine there. Mike Hamilton did great there. How good of an AD do you think he was?

We need a focus on winning and more specifically winning where it matters.

This guy is Mike Hamilton except everyone already hates his guts. No coach is gonna want to work for this guy.

The $ fell off greatly in the later years of Hamilton. What came first is the story

The best way to get money at UT is to win. The best way to win is to be able to hire good coaches, give support to the ones you have and definitely make sure they're able to recruit.

My biggest reason for wanting Fulmer or Blackburn is that I felt they would rally the troops and go all-in on trying to get a grand slam football hire if/when Butch is fired or moves on. School pride and all that. But there's obviously no guarantee of that. Landing a top-notch football coach requires having all the right pieces in place, of course, but it also requires great timing and having a guy out there who is actually willing to come to your school (which in many cases now involves prior connections to the school).

We still don't have a Harbaugh out there. So if Currie ends up having to hire a football coach, he'll be looking at the same candidates that Fulmer and Blackburn would have looked at, and at that point you're basically looking at a bunch of Butch Jones-caliber mid-major guys. Because no matter who is AD, I just don't see the university spending the insane money that it would take to poach a top coach, and I also don't see the stars ever aligning where we'll have an opening in the same offseason that we're the obvious landing spot (i.e., no better jobs open) for a superstar free agent coach.

All that said, if Currie is actually great at raising money and keeping the NCAA off our backs (while hopefully not handcuffing the programs in the process), he'll make a fine AD. We just need to hope that Butch doesn't decide to leave two weeks before NSD.

I almost hesitate to say this, but Gruden would be the wild card. I honestly think that there's no way he coaches again, but I wonder if he would at least think about it if CPF had been the AD looking to hire.

Sounds like Hamilton outside of compliance.

Hubbs replaced Fort with a Gator...

"For the last couple of months, Rob, Austin and I have done our very best to bring you the latest in all things Tennessee and there's been plenty of news.

During that time we have worked extensively at finding the right person to join our family to enhance our coverage of Tennessee athletics which certainly includes recruiting.

Back in August a new face arrived in Knoxville to cover Tennessee and in just a short period of time everyone has taken notice of his work. It's been impressive.

Whenever Volquest has expanded we have done it to make us better in every facet from breaking news, to features, to multi-media, branding, and overall quality of work. We are first and foremost always about delivering the news and in looking for someone we want a news hound with the ability to tell/share great stories.

Today, I'm thrilled to tell you that Volquest is getting better as we welcome Jesse Simonton to the family.

Jesse Simonton was born and bred in SEC country. He has a degree in journalism from the University of Florida. Jesse covered the Gators for The Miami Herald from 2013 to 2016, writing about everything from multiple coaching searches, a College World Series and a Final Four. He spent the last six months at SEC Country as a Tennessee football and recruiting writer.

After seeing Jesse's work throughout the fall, Austin, Rob and I knew he was someone we wanted to talk to. After a lunch that turned in an afternoon of talking about philosophies in the business and style/approach to covering a team and covering news, it was clear we had to get Jesse on the Volquest team.

So please join us in welcoming Jesse to the Volquest family."

Hmmm, I am not a subscriber, but I will be interested to see how Jesse writes about Tennessee.

A more controversial hire than Currie as AD??? :)

Maybe Fortenberry can be the AD when Currie leaves?
