Is there a back story on why Thigpen stayed?

It actually means that Shoop could have either been bumped to first class, or cashed in frequent flyer miles.

I love conspiracy theories.

It could also be, that Thigpen gave up his 1st class seat, to a Grandma from coach.

Go Vols ! Let's get really prepared this year, for Game 1 how 'bout it.

I said suspect, not bad. AJ Johnson improved tremendously from junior to senior year. JRM was good. Kirkland is good. He was unable to develop much depth though. Not sure whether that's recruiting or coaching. He needs to have a really good year to impress me personally, because he is a weak link IMO. He's certainly not coaching well enough to recruit at a sub-par level.

That's fair.

When your 3rd stringer MLB balls out, what more would it take? Just asking.

Go Vols!

A lot of the speculation out there was that Shoop was going to get all of his own guys.
I think there was some talk about Thigpen offending a Grandma and that hurt mid state recruiting?

So, should we be happy that he is staying?

Wasn't it Oregaron who showed up in Memphis at Marlon Browns grandmothers house for a visit and he was drunk? Thus Brown ended up at Georgia!
Not a big deal because Brown had a less than staller career at Georgia.

Maybe he is following in Orgeron's footsteps when he laid a stinker on Marlon Brown's grandma's couch.

May be a rumor, but it is funny.:)

Don't we have enough going on without creating conflict where there isn't any. Perhaps both coaches are class acts. Got to be frequent flyer miles.

Whose 3rd string MLB "balled out"(god I hate that phrase)? Certainly no one on Tennessee's team.

For some reason I thought Jumper was 3rd string and I thought he played well(balled out is juvenile).

Release the Beast!

Yea I think the story goes that he offended a relative of Van Jefferson. Speaking of Van. Has anybody heard anything about any of our coaches going after him or another OM player that could look to transfer?

Thig called Van's mother a b1tch and she overheard it. Not a big deal anymore and he wasn't wrong

The fact that Jumper got significant playing time over highly touted recruits proves my point. No, Jumper didn't ball out. He played okay at times, like a lost walk-on at others. He showed improvement, yes. But he was not good enough to be out there. Where were the other options?

Seriously - I have flown in first class with my boss in coach before and vice versa. Frequent flyer miles, when one makes the request to upgrade, whether someone is willing to pay for their upgrade all come into play here.

Edited to add: And unless there is work that must be done on a the plane - I prefer not to sit by co-workers. :)

Actually Jumper performed better in the position than others did. I know because he was a walk-on folks automatically assume he is not good enough.

From what I have heard, Shoop's defense requires smart players in the key LB position - just because a player is the fastest, strongest, etc. doesn't imply he can be the QB for the defense. He may not be able to read offenses well.

I personally think that is what Jumper did well - if we had a player with his ability to read / react to the offenses with the physical ability of a 4 or 5*, that player would be a great fit for Shoop's defense and a great LB.

Just my opinion based on what I saw. Sometimes Jumper was 1 step late but the majority of the time was either headed in the right direction or in the right place.

I must be missing something(not new to me), if a 3rd year walk-on plays before a highly touted recruit, doesn't that mean the walk-on has developed and that why he is playing and not the recruit.

Unless since the recruit isn't playing it means that he isn't being developed, but why would anyone think a true freshman should play before a 3rd year guy even if the on that has been around a while is a walk-on.
