Well folks. After having missed a few days on here with the flu/stomach bug that was going around, I think I may have been back a day. You may or may not have noticed that I once again was missing for several days again (a week?). I don't recall for sure this time.

I just returned home after having been laid up in the hospital. They were basically rearranging my insides, back to the way they are supposed to be I guess. My round with the flu apparently had undone a previous surgery (from years ago) that was performed after a run-in years ago with a friendly little device left by a road by some fine folks who apparently disapprove of America.

I was told to be on bed rest for the next week and take it easy for another week after that. They don't know me very well. I plan to be back to work by Monday, Wednesday at the latest. Damn lazy civilian mentality. You can't get anything done laying on your ass waiting for things to fix themselves.

Sounds like a may have missed a few things in my absence. We need a new WR coach apparently. I'll try to catch up on the rest as I go, but be patient if I ask something or make a statement about something that may or may not be true any longer. I've skipped many pages in many threads to catch up to today.

Speak your opinions folks, rebut others opinions folks. But most of all enjoy your freedom. I just spent many days being reminded that the price paid for it does not end just because you come home.

:hi:

Get well..

Dang brother, sorry to hear you are going through all of that. Take it easy and rest some, you'll still get back to work weeks before the civilians would. Case in point, the last time they went in to fix one of my knees, my wife babied me for an entire weekend, then kicked me back to work on Monday (surgery was Thursday). She said I just ride a desk so may as well go in.
My boss at my current job tore up his leg trying to do a flip on a trampoline back in early December. He didn't come back until end of January and has been on half days since then (and will be until the end of March).

So, bottom line, stay home until you get bored and you'll still amaze everyone at work at your early return.

Get well soon, ya crusty old combat vet! Thank you for your sevice.

Well, hope it's not true.
We'll manage but hate to see these kids throw away such an opportunity.

I remember being so stubborn and rebellious but sometimes you have to man up and get over it.

Playing SEC football isn't easy. I don't think he plays much if he is on the roster but who knows. I won't blame him.

Could be it,*IF it's true. I shouldn't just assume that it's related to his suspension.
Just seems that it often works out that way.

Definitely missed you. Did all the heavy lifting during your club med. InVol and Glick need blood transfusions...real low energy levels. :boredom:

Fortenberry with a drive by post on VQ tonight...

"I got to know Kevin Beard back in the day when he was a 7-on-7 guy in Miami. He has a ton of connections in South Florida given he has been there virtually his whole life.

He was a good guy. Haven't talked to him in a few years, though. He came to UT a few times with some players back in the early 2000s.

Hope everyone is doing well."

A really good post on VQ I thought was worth sharing...

"Can I get a GQ guide to what is acceptable in assistant coaches?

Successful veterans are deemed too old, not high energy enough, no upward trajectory.

Young guys are deemed too inexperienced.

Guys coming from the NFL are questionable recruiters and will have trouble making the transition to college.

Guys coming from smaller schools will be in over their head and won't make the transition to big-time college.

Lateral moves are bad because if the guy was any good he would be getting a promotion to coordinator or HC. And why did his old school let him go?

Guys moving down the ladder are bad because why hire a failed coordinator or head coach?

Guys moving up the ladder are bad because why are we taking the chance on a Quality Control guy or a Grad Assistant?

Guys who know Butch are bad because they are yes men and Butch needs to get out of his comfort zone.

Guys who don't know Butch are bad because we worry about staff chemistry and they don't have an idea of how Butch wants things.

Tennessee grads are bad because we need new blood.

Non-Tennessee guys are bad because they don't know how this place works and what it will take.

Just need a flow chart of how everyone possible candidate is extremely flawed and OMG WE ARE DOOMED."

Don't want to sidetrack the thread with my story, but it was a pretty amusing, albeit painful experience.

The ER knew I was coming. Doctor had called them before I went in. I had the cat scan that had been done on me literally 1 1/2 hours prior. The doctor had called ahead, so they would be ready for me and be able to get me up to a room quicker...lol....that didn't happen. I was in an ER room for several hours. I learned as the night went along that they simply didn't believe what I was supposed to be being admitted for. Along they way they pulled about a quart of blood from me....one vial at a time, poked and prodded on my whole abdominal area 20-30 times. Would ask the whole on a scale of 0 to 10 what is your pain level (my response was usually 4 or 6, but 6 was visible in my face to them when I said it). All along through this ordeal I'm telling them, "hey, I have this cat scan that might help", but like little cock roaches, their just scurrying here and there, doing their thing. Finally one doctor takes the cat scan and disappears for a while. When he comes back...he has an EKG machine with him. He gets it hooked up.....is watching it closely as I'm laying there.....I have a spike in pain....he then asks again...0 to 10 pain level....I say...6. He pulls all the cords off, says, I'll let you find all those tabs stuck on you yourself and walks out.

Long story short. When he returns he calls me an anomaly. Says I shouldn't even be sitting there talking to him during my high pain level (6). Most people would be screaming in pain or passed out. I laughed and said all he had to do was ask, I could have explained all that to him and saved us all a lot of time. He looked at me quizzically and I said...I'm a Marine, can I get a room now?

I was in a room 15 minutes later. I had been in the ER for approximately 4 hours at that point.

I did discover that at 52 my blood pressure averages about 116/62....at the peak of my pain it peaked one time at 130/70.

That was just the ER portion of my stay. :eek:lol:

Was wondering where you'd been - glad you're back!

Can't wait for the "rest of the story".

Get well soon. This sounds like the pain pill epidemic, to me. If u go to an ER, anymore, they are so sceptical. They think everyone is coming in, faking and trying to get pain pills, that the people that are really hurting or sick are treated like junkies. What bothers me the most, is that u had a CatScan with u, but they didn't want to listen or look at it and when they finally did, they still doubted u. Ridiculous. Plus, apparently, they ignored your Dr., that called in advance. Good luck, BB
