Azzanni Departing to NFL

He's the OC of a top 5 college football job. Why would he take a downgraded position and move his family across the country?

Whoops, I was looking through the recruiter rankings on 247 and all it said was Wide Receivers coach. I forgot he was also OC.

Butch couldn't sell Tee on the OC gig with a bank truck behind it. Now he's going to leave a T10 team to come here?

Hmm.

Wylo, I don't always agree with you but with thus being the 7th new assistant and possibly and 8th after the NCAA vote in April, you do have to have some concern about cohesion and buy in with this much turnover.

I'm not exactly upset at this move. We've had a lot of talent at WR the past few seasons, and not a ton of production. I think there is potential to upgrade that spot.

Maybe AZ was a great recruiter, but as a teacher I wonder.
As a game plan developer he may be real good ( new job). As things were here (injuries, QB abilities, OL problems, ect.) may have hurt his ability to teach. We may not know just how good he was at this part of the job. However, I don't think he is that good. Now, at the pro level, teaching should not be that important as his receivers will already be taught.

I hear the WR coach for the Dallas Cowboys is pretty good and has previous SEC coaching experience as well.

They're all friends of Butch or been with Butch before they know how this boat floats

About to get flamed but here it goes:

I get why Azzanni got blame the first 3 years, but it seems like year 4 showed everything people had wanted from the position:
Malone developed and had great season
Jennings developed(and wasn't wr when he came in)
Byrd showed promise as a freshman when he came in as a db and had little time with Azzanni
Josh Smith has shown improvement, but still has the injury bug and the occasional baffling drop

It just looks like the results people said were lacking, were there in year 4. Not to say the WR core is perfect, but there was a lot of improvement. I think Azzanni needed to go, I just don't quite get all the blame he still gets. Martinez was weakest link on staff last 4 years imo

Who's coached with Butch before on offense that isn't on the staff? Look at that list and you can find your replacement

The WR reciever core showed improvement this year no dont, bit my main concern has always been the lack of separation off the line, and guys like Malone never really seemed to learn how to use there body type and size, Jennings is the only one I really remember seeing use his body to box out(if you will) a defender and make a play on 50/50 balls, physicality was lacking at times.

Whoever the next coach is I hope he will be an outstanding WR coach and a better recruiter!
